What would be the main difference from a 2.25 to a 2.5 ?

I guess I would wait for one of these.

Sorry I m in France, no way to get the car there ...

As it stands it looks like I'm the only one interested in a 2.5" exhaust... if that's the case then Piper may as well give up now.

click this link and add your name to the list if you're interest in a 2.5" system that will suit all Elans

The 2.5" can flow more exhaust, so more fuel and air can be pushed through the engine.

A 2.25" Peco added between 10 and 27 bhp (according to Peco's rolling road) over the stock exhaust.

This was discussed at some length previously on the Peco thread (I think) and IIRC there was no conclusive proof that in the otherwise stock setup there was any great benefit in 2.5" over 2.25", but if you are planning at some stage to look at a bigger turbo/more boost then the 2.5" might be a better choice.

@piperrs:

I´m in the immediate need of a backbox, as mine is completly rusted out and simply fallen down

Image

I have a different engine (Kia, of course there is more different than only the engine ;) ) but I hope I have the same run of the exhaust pipes... It´s a 1,8l 16v DOHC with cat with an additional presilencer. The outer diameter of the pipes is 50mm - 2inch.

Would it be possible to take the N/A-System too?

Thanks for responding in advance

Kind regards

I doubt it. I would not be surprised if the engine/gearbox layout of the Kia requires the exhaust to be re-routed.
I would not risk buying one designed for a Lotus NA. I would get one custom built. There are several places in the UK which would do this, so I am sure you will be able to find one more locally.

When I first saw this new posting in this thread & thought it was more news on Peco :(

hm... I have thought, that the space under frame is so much limited, that Kia hasn´t have another chance than to follow the Lotus way... Did you mean that this looks different to yours?

The routing looks the same middle and rear but can`t tell at the front, have you got a pic of the front section?

Yours has 2 silencer + a cat, ours only have 1 silence as stock. The other problem could be the position of the rubber bungs. But it`s possilble it could fit, just all depends on the front section :?

I was thinking more about the front section too, particularly the way it routes under the sump/gearbox area.

Looks like you guys have been busy over the weekend. I see their is demand for a N/A system also and looking at the pictures, it appears similar to the Turbo system from the centre back so we could make a system that shares the centre and rear but with different front sections. This would not be a problem for us as long as we have the cars in together.

So now i think the demand would be for these products:

PIPEXH1 - 2.5" system - suit Turbo - With Sports cat
PIPEXH2 - 2.5" system - suit Turbo - Without Sports cat
PIPEXH3 - 2.25" system - suit turbo - With Sports cat
PIPEXH4 - 2.25" system - suit Turbo - Without Sports cat
PIPEXH5 - 2.25" system - suit Non turbo - With Sports cat
PIPEXH6 - 2.25" system - suit Non Turbo - Without Sports cat

Although this looks like alot of options and you may worry it will put us off its not too bad and we think we can do this comfortably. We have learnt that its best to give people as much choice as possible. I have given them temporary part numbers to make refering to them easier. What i would like from you members is a record of who wants what. I see a thread has been started already in the "Group Buys" section of this forum so if people could register their interest in their that would be great.

We are still needing a couple of cars to see (one Turbo, one Non Turbo) as then we can do the costings and get this project underway for you as i can see some of you are needing exhausts pretty quick.

Has there been any further news from Peco?

I think this covers everything.

Monti, rip

Here the frontpictures I have:

Frontview

Front with sideview

Are the pictures sufficient? I have thought, If only one point is similar to yours... than it must be a simple bolt on, mustn´t it? Thanks for help so far.

PiperRS: I have to note, that the pictures from my car right above are not from a Lotus Elan. Quick hint: The complete production was selled in former times to Kia. The powertrain is completely different. The car body, suspension layout, most materials from the undercarriage are equal. All Kia Elans on this half of the world have belonging mufflers the same problem like me... there is none, who cares about us :( Do you think you could help us too? Image

A complete line with silencer, sportcat would be very fine. It must not have to be loud, cause loud is not quite similar with quick... a more subtile sound would be much appreciated. :)

If I have a wish for free, it could be look like this Image Image

Thats okay. We shall try and look at the 2 different cars (turbo and non Turbo) together so will identify the similarities then.

With regards to your Kia Elan. Again, if demand is high enough i guess. Start a seperate thread to register interest and we can go from their.

Don,

The routing is very similar but the front attacment looks completely different + you O2 sensor is in a different place. So if you buy the SE/S2 version you`ll need to bodge the front down pipe :?

Garry
Think Don is the only regular Kia owner on here.

BTW Peco don`t have the sole rights for the Exhaust on LEC and there are a few others that supply exhaust but in a standard form. Peco is on the noisy side which has put a few people off so if you can do a system which is quiter or maybe even a choice of silencers then i think you`ll get a few orders.

Monty, Garry: What I couldn´t understand... Why is it so much important, that the frontsection does fit too? The Turbo- and N/A-systems for the Lotus/Isuzu doesn´t include the exhaustmanifold as well, doesn´t they?

I thought, if only one special point in our routing is similar, one point is really the same, than we could fit both the same ending to it, or what stands against that? The diameter raises for both systems as well...

I could not understand... Please help me with another hint.

Thx in advance

Kind regards

Don,

On the Lotus Elan (Turbo) IIRC there`s a cast section coming of the back of the turbo (wastegate) then the cast section for the pre-cat and then there`s the triangular flange were the Exhaust starts from and in your photo`s you do not have this triangular flange/joint. If you look in the manual there`s a diagram of the exhaust systems.

Monty, thanks for the explantion.

Let me ask another way round... if this point,
Image
where the pipe is resting and waiting for a new backbox is at the similar geographic point of our cars, for what technical reason should it not work letting any presilencers and cats´n´dogs beside?

Thank you for your patience :)

Don, there's a picture of the Lotus exhaust in the Wiki (click on it for a larger image). Unfortunately, the joints are sleeved and not flanged as yours appears to be.

Aahh, I see 8) Thank you. And the fitting is in the near of the middle of my presilencer.

Yes, ok, so this should be a mission for my local forger/farrier. ;)

If I have done this, are there any more aspects?
