Unusual Exhaust Repairs

Postby markv » Mon 11.04.2016, 15:41

For a couple of years Steve Williams has been telling me my exhaust had been fixed with a drinks can. I thought he was being sarcastic, but when the exhaust went and my neighbour kindly put the car up on his hydraulic car lift, this is what I found :o

It was probably Dico that fixed it in the first place

So if it's a big bore you use Fanta, if it's standard bore Red Bull might be a better fit...

I still have no idea who installed it or when. I've had the Elan for 10 years now - surely it can't have been there that long?? Although having said that, the car is garaged and doesn't do enough miles each year

Are those stainless steel jubilee clips one of your Group Buys, Geoff? I'll need a replacement set, to go with the second hand Pepsi Max can Jim's selling me :D

On second thoughts, I've just found the perfect aftermarket part, and it matches my car pefectly...

I missed this thread last week but when I saw the title tonight I recalled the pic of Dico's Elan which Geoff posted.

Back when I was a poor student I did this roadside repair on a mini when the exhaust snapped in half.
Feel slightly guilty to say I sold it like that 6 months later!

I'm now wondering if it's still in place???
