Locked out of boot

Postby DavidW » Tue 23.04.2019, 13:37

Hi everyone

I was recently flagged down and told that my boot lid was open (I hadn't noticed!).
It appears that the locking mechanism on the lid had become very loose. I tightened it up with a screwdriver without giving it a lot of thought and it closed, but it must be misaligned because now the key won't open it!
I know there is a secret 'keys locked in boot' fix, but I'm guessing that this won't help in this instance?

Any advice much appreciated,

David

Does the key still turn completely or does it go a bit and get stuck?

If it goes a bit, you could carefully but firmly push down (and possibly slightly sideways) on the lid to take some strain off the latch.

If it goes the normal full distance, you might have assembled it on the wrong side of the latch.

If so, you will want/need the "secret"...

Send me your email address and I will send you the PDF.

UPDATE - Before trying the 'keys locked in boot trick' I tried pressing firmly on the boot lid (something I'd seen in another thread) and it opened.
I can't shut it now though! The lock mechanism is very loosely attached to the lid and now however I tighten the two screws I can't get it into a position where turning the key engages the lock.
It's off to a nearby garage to resolve tomorrow! Thanks for your help :)
