Drip

Hello all.
I'm contemplating returning to the fold after a year or more of TVR driving, but my previous S2, although probably the most fun I ever had with a car, was not a comfortable daily drive, due to having to wear plastic trousers every time it rained!
I tried everything, even a new roof, to no avail.
Someone told me once that it all depended on how the roofs were fitted at Lotus. Some were done "right" and some weren't and unless you can find the magic-roof-adjuster-man you will always get wet knee syndrome.

I remember that misery only too well and that is the ONLY thing that is stopping me rushing out today and buying another one. It will be my daily drive so I need it to be watertight especially considering the summers we are getting!

Are there any M100s out there that DON'T leak? If so, how do I go about finding one? Your comments and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know about that!

I do know that mine leaks when standing, I was promised a shower cover in exchange for some other parts once, but the shower cover never arrived.

For "leak stopping" information, see the Service Notes manual Addendum no 1 "Water Ingress; areas of attention" pp 55-73.

There used to be quite a bit of info about curing leaks on the Forum, but I don't think it made it through the big site crash of 2 or 3 years ago. However, Addendum no 1 should do you as it's quite comprehensive. Too comprehensive actually - I don't think you need to do it all.

About all they missed is adding extra foam seal (or silicon sealant) to the top of the windscreen to prevent water getting in past the header seal and dripping down at the A-pillar. This is a better solution than the "drain tube" method recommended in the Service Notes in my opinion, as it treats the cause (water getting past the seal, not the effect (water dripping onto your knees). A light smear of silicon grease on all of the seals also helps.

My car does not leak beyond the occasional drip running down the inside of the window when I wash it using a hose/brush attachment.

My white one didn't leak, from what ive been told, its the door glass that needs to be adjusted, but its such a pain to get at most peeps can't be bothered !

Mine doesnt drip if the doors are closed before it starts to rain,
If i get out and get back in while its raining then it starts to DRIP on my knee.

"Section BK Addendum 1 - Water Ingress; areas of attention". I have it in my manual.

I had a look on the world wide inter net web thing and found this:

Scroll down to section BK, click on "overview", then scroll about 2/3 of the way down all the page thumbnails until you find Addendum 1 on page 55 (it has a drawing of the LH door aperture), click on the thumbnail and there you go. Nae sweat.

Follow the instructions, plus the trick with the black sealant and cling film on the screen-top closing surface, and Bob's your uncle.

PS having said that my car doesn't leak, it threw it down today and I got a serious arm and kneeful on the drive home. When I got it into the garage I noticed that I hadn't clipped the drivers side hood header clasp up properly. Whoops. Now I know what all the wet knee complaints are all about.

PPS: while looking for the manual on the interwebnet, I came across this blast from the past. For all those less than enthusiastic about the new site layout, have a look at how LEC was in 2002. Yes that's a real message board. You can even recognise some names.
