Could I ask advice as to where I should post a query?

Postby JeffJ » Sun 09.01.2011, 17:22

My gear cables (or perhaps the selector) failed on Friday night. Should I post queries about this under the 'Problems - Need Help!' heading, or in the 'Transmission, and clutch' section?

I have read the guide to new topics by ‘Enright’ at:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12252

But because mine are in the nature of ‘individual’ queries, I don't think that they have been addressed elsewhere, though I have used the search function as best as I can to get as far as I can ‘down the road’ to answer my questions.

I have also read the comprehensive guide to the diagnosis and temporary repair of gear cables by ‘Specky’ at:

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=18246

I think that this pointed me in the right direction, and perhaps would have answered my queries, if only I were a little more technically adept.

I hope that I’m not breaching this site’s ‘netiquette’ with this first post. I’m afraid that I’m not very good with the internet – and I struggled somewhat with ‘logging on’ when I forgot about capital letters in my password!

Welcome to the forum- I don't think you'd be out of line to post in either forum, people aren't unkind here. (Worst case scenario, the whole post can be moved to a different forum if need be)

If your gear cables are gone, you'll want to buy replacements from AB - http://www.abmotosport.com/Elan_gearcable_fitment.htm

It's one of the more common issues in our aging cars.

Thanks for taking the trouble to ask, oh and welcome to the forum. :)

I'd add to Specky's thread if I were you as it's worth keeping that one active with it being so useful.
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

And I think people ought to be able start their own individual threads when they have a problem rather than adding it to someone else’s.

Using a well chosen title would improve subsequent searches.
