I was wondering if anyone has the original stock radio/stereo (for a Federal Elan, if they were in fact different) that they have laying around for sale, or would they want to trade for whatever Sony aftermarket CD player that has been put in mine. I don't know much about car audio and frankly don't listen to anything much at all, but I would like to keep my car more "original" (yeah, call me a putz) and put the stock radio back in.
No idea what they're worth on the market today (if much at all) since they aren't "fancy" like all the new CD / MP3 players with iPod this and that. Also don't have any idea how hard it is to get them in and out of the dash...

Hegg, I have a kinda sorta original stereo. It's the CD player that fits into the same chassis. You're welcome to it just as soon as I do my stereo project. Mind you, it could be a while since I've got my hands full with 2 dead cylinders.

WTF do you want some 1991 POS??!! You could probably get some $25 crap from the local auto parts store that will be nicer!
Elans were shipped to the US without a stereo in them. Atlanta put a lot of Sony XR-7070 units in, but there are a few other OE stereos for that reason.
The original Elan stereo and speakers are so bad they make me want to exert violence on you if you want them in your car. For F*** sake get a POS and put it in and you will be happy. Anyone who would go searching for an Elan because it has an OE stereo or give such Elan higher value or consideration is beyond crazy.
Jack, it's always some or another excuse, isn't it?? I assume it's another reason you don't have any pictures of your Elan??

Hegg, I have an original Sony radio which was taken out of the car at 6500 mi. (Yes, under 10,000). As I remember the search function didn't work properly, but I'm sure it could be repaired. PM me if you are interested. Can't be too difficult to put in as a local shop who had never seen a Lotus before swapped it out in about two hours.
