Cramped Foot Syndrome

I suffer from Cramped Foot Syndrome (CFS) - the afflication of an aching, cramped foot/ankle after 10 minutes so that it is impossible to get a comfortable leg/ankle/foot position to operate the accelerator and brake pedals. On the motorway I have resorted to pressing the heel of my foot on the wheelarch which is more comfortable but obviously can't get to the brake pedal as quickly. I am 6ft 1" tall with a 31" inside leg in a right hand drive Lotus Elan S1. I know about the Peter Stevens design c**k-up in taking an inch out of the cabin length instead of adding an inch. I have my seat back against the battery wall and have removed the blocks under the seats to sit lower. Does anybody else suffer with an aching ankle and what is the solution, if any?

Hmmm, i know how you feel about cramp....

...whilst i can't say i have an official 'syndrome' i do suffer a bit due to getting myself smashed up a bit in my younger days (left knee and right ankle smashed by being run over, along with a few other maladies which have somewhat but not totallyrectified themselves over the past 25 years).

I find that in any car my ankle can 'set' in a possition which can limit my ability to react quickly to get to the brake pedal - it only happens if it is still for any length of time, so basically, motorway stuff.

My last 2 daily drivers have Cruise Control, which gives me what i need - a chance to wave my foot about in the footwell.

I have even looked at the possibility of fitting a Vectra Cruise system onto the elan, but it hasn't got anywhere as i don't do a lot of motorway miles in it.

Like you, I have little spare legroom, being 6'1" with 32"legs. I have removed the spacers to get as much room as possible, and fitted an Elise steering wheel which all helps to give space.

I'm not sure how quickly your condition manifests itself, but i find that on a motorway run i need a break every hour, just to stretch my legs, but on 'cross country' runs i'm okay as the ankle gets more exercise during the drive.

I also suffer from severe cramp in the toes and finger's, and it often starts just getting into the Élan. My doctor has prescribed Quinine tablets and recommends drinking tonic water (without the gin). it has reduced the number of occurrences but has not cured the problem. I have noticed that this seems to be more prevalent during the colder months. I hope you are able to find a solution that works for you.

I often suffer from ear ache so i leave the wife at home and it seems to cure it

I don't suffer cramp in the elan but in my daily driver i do find my leg aches which using cruise control or regular stretches seems to help

I'm six three, with 33/34 leg, I have to adopt a slouched position when motorway driving bit don't find it to uncomfortable, Kims for KA is far worse. After more than 30 mins I have back ache and cramped legs/ankles

Just a thought with the spacers, I left the front two in allowing a bit of leg bend and support...

Hmmmmm in some ways but at least he doesn't start each sentence with have'nt you done that yet
