Whilst refitting the facia panel to Missy having rebonded the multitude of mounting tabs that had fallen the victim of time degrading the adhesive it became apparent that the ashtray appear to have the housing missing.
Does anybody please have a housing? Long shot I know, failing that I'll 3d print a slide out stowage tray that may be more useful anyway.

Simple solution. Fit a satnav in place of the ashtray. My Garmin slots in a treat and is far more useful than a cancer stick anyway

According to the parts catalogue, the ashtray is one complete assembly. Do you only have the removable bin bit, and was the housing missing before you took the dash apart?
Either try one of the usual breakers or follow Rambo's suggestion which several others have also done.

It was missing before the fascia was removed. The bin bit was wedged in
