I assumed that the right angle had either been removed (it's practically useless anyway) or was still attached to the hose...my apologies.

no, your info was a great help thanks sy. Most of that post was written for 'double entendre effect' there were so many 'possibles' within reach of the hose that your info narrowed the hunt down greatly. My right angled peice is in pretty poor condition, from what you said would you recommend running the hose straight onto the nipple instead of getting a replacement right-angled pipe?
