Interior hood flaps / covers

Postby scubaruss » Fri 15.07.2005, 06:15

Hi all.....well I'm now the proud owner of a 1990 Elan SE however I have a small problem.

There are 2 flaps situated within the cockpit just behind the drivers right ear & the passengers left ear - don't know what they are called but these flaps are spring loaded & basically cover the mechanics of the hood when it is retracted. Anyway I need the left hand side flap & the 2 springs that are attached to it. I understand that Lotus dis-continued this part some time ago & I also understand that there were 2 versions...I need the early version.

Can anybody help a newbie in need :?:

Nice to see you've posted this in the right section as well. B post pillar caps.
Good genuine ones are like rocking horse droppings.
2 types - one with a piano keyboard cover-type long latitudinal spring hinge.
The other with two long lightweight springs that attach to the cap and the other side of thehinge...sometimes with tie-wraps.
The profgile and size of the caps is different too.
Darren is reverse engineering carbon fibre alternatives (can't remember which variant). Not sure if you'll still need to source your own springs.

The Carbon fibre mould has now been made for the later version 'B' post caps, so when I get round to it, I'll try and get a few pictures posted of the pre-production versions.

I still need help sourcing the sprung hinges, so if you know about these things/suppliers, give me a shout.

Owwwww I still need an older version cap to make a mould for. So if anyone is willing to lend me one ?

The best I can offer is a drivers side version but you're more than welcome to use it for making your mould.
