carpet glue

Postby RatHead » Sat 04.03.2006, 22:33

What do people use for sticking their carpets and leather inserts back on the inside of the door? I notice SJ sell carpet adhesive but I wondered if anyone has tried anything else?

Its got to be something that doesnt stick/set to hard for when you need to take the door card off for maintainence. I was thinking of a translucent sealent from a DIY shop.

Double sided tape

Postby johnbenk » Sun 05.03.2006, 00:19

Hi.

You can now buy double sided tape in large rolls at most car spare stores

I have found this is better to use than "sticking" with glue. You need to clean off all the old gunge from the door card so that you have a nice clean surface. The trick is do a long strip starting at the front but miss the first inch. If you wish to remove the carpet, all you do is peel back the first
inch and pull back like removing a "Plaster" . It will come away but then need to put back new tape to replace. The large rolls are £3.99 each
Hope this helps.

The other alternative is to use "Velcro Pads" the type they use come in large squares which can be purchased from Halfords.
