anyone know how to get the latch mechanism out of the actual glove box door itself??......
I'm going to try to repair my catch before I buy a new one as theyre £30+ from vauxhall and there was nothing wrong with mine until the hinge pin fell out!!!

I think it is held in with a U shaped flat plate, that you slide off (harder than it sounds) and the lock comes out.

Do you still have the hinge pin, as when I bought my Elan, the catch handle was in the glovebox and had never been refitted since coming off. I did manage to re fit it successfully, and it has not come off again since.

As the hinge pin is only a cotter pin, it might be worth seeing if you can get a suitable one from a hardware shop or the like.

spot on...is as mine.....I do however still have the pin justa can see of a way to get the pin back through with out getting the latch mechanism out

can you remember which direction the plate slides???...
left right up or down....
all direction as sat in the passenger seat.....hence left being towards the passenger door...right towards the drivers door....up being towards you sat in the passenger seat......down towards the engine..into the glove box itself.....
any recollections???

If I remember right the plate holding the latch in will slide down... might be up, definitely not left or right.

Also watch out, on mine it was a simple U shaped circlip of plastic, which had been shaved or belt sanded down in places to fit, making it very brittle, resulting in a hand made (read "bodged") repair involving some epoxy, fresh plastic and a bit of sandpapering!

If the latch doesn't reconnect too well, you can adjust the grab of the latch by loosening the two nuts holding the anchor in, the anchor (loop the latch bites onto) is designed to slide forwards and abck to adjust the close point.
