Seatbelts Replace or Repair!!!

A plead for advice...

Is it possible to replace the spring that causes the seatbelt to retract?

If so, how do you do it?

Can you get new assemblies for a reasonable price?

If a word is spelt wrong in the dictionary, how would you know?

Dave, I think you may not have a choice.

Ask a tame MOT inspector before yours is due to confirm, but I think it's something that is part of the test.

Given the generic nature of the part, you might find something in the cross-reference thread.

Alternatively if you're lucky, someone with a scrapped Elan might have one - I can think of a couple of likely candidates oop North.

The old girl passed her MOT, but the retraction of the belts is less than inspiring.

I'm not after the Vincent Van Gough look, But something that whistles passed your ear when you unclip is what I’m after..

Next on my list of important to-dos too Dave. Mine seem to be fine at some times of year, but as soon as the damp, frosty weather kicks in they are worse than useless. Luckily, I have only had to take the car for it's MOT at times when they have been retracting semi-well.

I seem to recall reading in previous threads that the mechanism is no longer available from Lotus and I have so far not come accross discussion of an appropriate cross-referenced part.

Someone did find a Nissan one that fitted & looked pretty much identical, as much as i know ?

just had a quick browse Paul and on first checks it looks like the Nissan part was for the connection end that the belt mounts into. I.e. the bit on the left hand side of the driver on a RHD car.
