Centre Dash To Main Dash Gaps

My early car has appalling gaps between the dash and centre section.Theyare up to 10mm in places.

See the photo - I am open for comment good or bad but I think I have good a half tidy solution, making use of a Mini (yes Mini) windscreen rubber expander seal

It's a faff, you need to 'shrink' them down; on IPad I use an app called simply 'Resize Image'!

It's a real pain when I use my phone camera - take picture, email same to self, open it on IPad, Resize pic, publish to site!!!

Very neat indeed. I used to put my Sat Nav cable in the gap but this looks much neater.

I could have put a kettle cable in the gaps on mine.

I slackened all the dash mounts the three on the top and the hidden bolt on the right and by the radio slot on the left
Teased it in the profile lends itself to just hold, a couple of spots of super glue to retain it and then tightened everything back up. I cut the end by the console in a taper with a sharp blade.

I used a couple of yards of neoprene round-section foam (like this http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.a ... entId=1#25) and just stuffed it in the gap all round. Makes things look much neater, and has been there for the last ten years held in by nothing.

I wish I had known - it's driven me nuts trying to find something that works and look as though it's supposed to be there with a finish and concave profile.

What diameter foam did you use, John? I tried the Mini seal, but the gap is too big in places!

Sorry for the delay in answering - I was away but have just measured what I used. It is 8mm round section "EXPANDED NEOPRENE CORD 8MM DIAMETER" as it's called on the Seals Direct site (about half way down this page) and it costs £1.57/metre. If your gaps are larger, then they also do 10mm & 12mm (and larger).

As I said I just stuffed it in and it makes a neat job. It also stops squeaks owing to misaligned sections of dash. It is very squashy, so will allow for the gap not being the same all the way round. They say you can use superglue to fix it or create a circle (I can't think why you'd want to).
