I am thinking of changing the seats but noticed the seat belts are attached to the seat frame. How do you get around fitting the belt.

Take it off the old seat and mount it on the new seat frame.

There is also a body-to-frame bolt behind the seat (under the speaker mount thing) that can be used. I used it for the lap belt of my harness when I replaced my seat.

Agreed Dave, but I think he'd need to find a buckle/receiver/female with a much longer arm to extend it into reach...assuming that he's going for the standard seat belt type.

Thanks for information, been a big help. The main problem encountered was the runners on the new seat were 15 in apart and on the original only 13in. I have used the original seat runners and managed to make a frame to attach the seatto the original runner. (I had to remove the front bracket by taking the rivets out (A shape) I have kept it so that I can return to the original seats if ever need.
Do the passanger side tomorrow, should be a lot easier now I have done one.

What is the standard seatbelt type? My driver side will not rewind even after lubrication. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement without paying Lotus prices - it must be a standard part from lot's of cars?

Arch, standard seatbelts are no longer available !, think someone found a Nissan one that was very close & fitted, can anyone confirm this ?

here in CA Mark found the Infiniti (Nissan) J30 had the female/receiver end almost identical to the Elan's and he has them as a replacement. But I have never heard of a cross-reference for the belt/retractable end yet--though I'd bet a few exist.

Funny that Archie - mine's got a bit sticky lately - must be due to the Scottish damp weather !! I usually give mine a helping hand to retract then it's OK

Must have been a Vauxhall bin part though - Cavalier, Astra etc....??

Yeah, it always was sticky but recently it siezed. I took it out and tried to free it up a little. Unfortunately it's completely bust now :shock:

You'd think so. I might remove it and take it to my local motor factor. They were very good in finding me a new alternator.

Probably the fact that quite a lot of other interior and mechanical parts all have GM roots.
