Wood effect door panel instead of carpet trim

Hi All

I have a friend who is into vennering classic car trim and he had some spare burr walnut left over.

He had a look at the lower carpet trim and ask me if he could have a "go"
at making a wood veneer lower door trim instead of carpet.

Anyway this is the effect pictures enclosed : The picture does not show the true effect it looks nicer when seen in person. If you are good with a jigsaw you can trace out the carpet and cut some thin wood to size and have go, if you are bored with the "carpet effect"

So if anyone want a" PROJECT" to go at you can buy the venners through
E-Bay. They come ready to "iron" on to the wood with the kit and then you would need to get some "spray" lacquar to give the wood a protection
(spray both sides of the panel to seal the wood)

How about ALBERT making some in STAINLESS STEEL now that would be Bling Bling It would match his door sills
he is bringing to Donington. Have added some some other types of venners. see Vale venners on E-BAY.

um, I don't think that matches the rest of your car's changes at all . . .

not a fan of wood in cars, and especially don't think it has a place in a M100.

I am not a fun of it on the inside, but love it on the outside like a station wagon

Love the wood, but think it may be a bit more Jag Mk IV rather than M100, however, the thought crossing my mind is... how brittle is the veneer, as I seem to spend a lot of time removing that carpet to remove the door cards.

Might not be to everyones taste, but nice bit of woodwork!

I think it looks pretty interesting, personally. I think doing a custom dashboard panel in the same material would really tie it together, too. Choosing a more modern material like a carbon fiber or body color painted (which if too shiny would be really obnoxious)..




or maybe engine turned sheet metal (like the Veyron):



(Yes I know we're talking about door panels here... but if they matched, it'd look better)

You should go to top of this thread, click on John Benk's name and have a browse through his previous posts.
Enjoy them - particularly the ones with more pictures of what he did to his Elan.
Then promise never EVER to follow his example!

I keep thinking there were pictures somewhere of one with carbon-fibre in the doors where there's normally carpet, and it looked very good, coordinated with other CF bits. I can certainly see where CF escutcheons, CF instead of carpet, and CF patterned leather on those inserts would look pretty good.

Erm. I think there are carbon door trims on here somewhere. I'm sure I've seen them too in the interior thread somewhere.
Personally I'm a standard or better still leather man! A nice leather trim with SE or S2 (Or N/A-Cheeky) embroidered is the proverbial dogs genetalia!

Yes they are 3mm alloy shaped to fit with the original carpet used as inserts.

Jackonicko is asking about the escutcheons, which are the little molded backing up at the door handle, not the trim in the normally carpeted area.

Sorry, the the bits behind the handles are painted to match the other trim, but they do look very realistic
