Reminds me of a discussion of a co-worker's new car at a staff meeting. Talk turned to cupholders, and I proudly stated "My Elan doesn't have any!"

Isn't that what the centre console and side pockets were designed for ? I can get 4 stubbies and an ice pack in my centre console :cheers:

Ok, for those who implied that cupholders were blasphemous I give you the Elan Stealth Dual Cupholder! Worked wonders on a trip to the Falls this weekend. :burnout:

And, the noise coming from the passenger seat diminished significantly! :smt061

Where did you get them from, and what are the things to the sides - they look built out further than normal. Are they speaker units?

I bought a pair of these:

I got the version where the bottom folds down (they have one where the top folds up - choice depends on how you place them). Drilled a few holes in the top cover, then in the sleeve (for lack of a better word) above the oddments tray that would usually hold the owner's manual. That piece is more than just fabric - there's a piece of hard plastic sandwiched in betweeen the fabric. I used short screws and nuts that have a rounded top that "caps" the screw so it doesn't show. Needed to do that to ensure that anything I put in the sleeve doesn't get torn up by the screw ends.

The "things on the side" are custom speaker enclosures I had installed a while back. Was relieved to find that the 2 cupholders fit perfectly between them.

No, for me I was never big on drinks in the Elan -- I hate commuting and kept all that to 30 minutes or less -- I did do long windy road drives, but never longed for a holder. Besides you can't get 40 ouncers in there anyway :drunk:

and should you get a good bump on a hard turn, you risk pouring your liquid into the fuses and subwoofer or the amp on the other side, Ekapol . . .

how about one of those hats with the cans in it and the straw down to your head -- dual purpose: keeps sun off your face with top down and holds the drinks! :wink:

Every car (not truck) has a cupholder: between the seat and the doorjamb, just above the seat belt anchor. Note, it's a cupholder, not a mugholder. Most cups fit snugly. Been doing that since my '92 Honda Accord, which had cupholders! Still doing it with the Lexus which has a clever but useless cupholder on the dash that flips out.
