That's a possibility. Would eliinate drilling and make for a cleaner look. If I recall, there's not much to attach any tape too though. Will have to have a look later. Simple two sided tape wouldn't work - would need some of that foam stuff to ensure good contact. Good thought!

I am curious about one thing though. On the OEM escutcheon, there is a conical head screw that advances into a socket in the escutcheon. Makes it so, when you tighten the screw, the head has something to push up against so to speak (am i being clear or confusing?) But, there's nothing like a socket for the screw to rest in on these escutcheons (especially if we are drilling a plain hole). So, what are people using to fasten it down with? The OEM screws or something else????

Foo, I DO know what a countersink is Its that thing in the kitchen.....right? On the counter? Holds water and usually dirty dishes?

I did consider using a countersink bit but the problem I think is that the CF is so thin there's not enough material to create a decent sized countersink for the screw to sit anything close to flush. The CF escutcheons (getting tired typing that out ) are easily 1/4 as thin as the originals. A "standard" screw (button head or hex) will sit too proud on the surface and scrape your knuckles when you open the door. I do like Brians's idea and will see if we can get that to work.

As far as knowing where to drill I suggest a piece of masking tap on the back of the escutcheon and a pen or pencil stub in the screw hole inside the door. Offer the escutcheon up and the pen or pencil will leave a witness mark on the tape and that's where you drill. I recommend a small pilot hole from the rear, masking tape over the hole on the front face, drill the actual size hole and then countersink to taste .

Just returned from a great vacation in Europe and found a package waiting for me. The parts are very well made. I think I'll try the double sided tape idea before I drill.

I've drilled and was just able to get the screw to sit reasonably flush with the face of the escutcheon. I couldn't find enough flat surface under the escutcheon to get the tape to stick confidently.

I've not read this thread so it may have already been mentioned...
One reason for the original ones breaking is there’s a gap between the back of the escutcheon and the fixing on the door, a bit of over tightening would guarantee to whip the front off.

It might be better to fit a spacer at the back of any new, or yet to be broken ones.
