Today i`ve changed the main cluster bulbs to Blue LED`s and the illumination is rubbish :twisted: so have to go back to the standard bulb`s but the lettering on the dails look orange :evil: not happy with these dials :cry:

One of the problems is that for the ilumination of the rev, speedo and fuel/temp gauge there is only 4 bulbs :roll:

2nd, is that the LED`s are more of a narrow beam and we need a wide ilumination.

Quite surprised you aint got enough illumination Monty, are you sure all the bulbs are working, thought mine were, but 2 of them wern't !

I thought that there was'nt enough illumination at the top of the speedo, so i added another bulb. I just soldered one bulb/holder to the other and drilled a hole at the top of the pod that was a tight fit. It was then a bit bright so i got a marker pen and dimmed it down slightly. Sound's rough but it worked well! Holty. 8)

If anyone wants to know, Lckwood still have them available, but the price, including delivery is GBP 51.94! :shock: :shock:

which is the bulb for the fuel/temp???? and are they the same as the bulbs for the dials.......first time with my lights on yesterday since I fitted them and I see what you mean about being abit....erm pale and orange...
the bulb at the fuel/temp site is deffo out though so I'm taking it appart again tonight to have a look see....any thoughts??.....

Bloody hell, thats a big hyke in price to what we payed !

Gareth,

If u`r taking the cluster out again u will soon spot them, the main one for the fuel/temp is very top right hand corner as u look over the top.

Going to purchase a full set of Lockwood dials and fit blue LEDs to the back - will submit findings and pictures towards the end of the week. This is the link to the ones that i bought - they fit the Calibra so hopefully they will fit the Elan...Mmmm

I think you might lose your dimming facility.. i'd be intrested to know how you get on..they look quite cool..

Leek, we didn't get the 170mph speedo for 2 reasons, 1stly it would of cost a lot more, & 2ndly as most of us have 16" wheels, the 160mph speedo is more acurate, i used a road angel to check this, & from 30 to 120mph the speedo was 3mph over, so pretty damn acurate !

I think the M200 must of had a 170mph speedo, If you look really closely you can see it :mrgreen:

I'm sure if you was prepared to send them an old one to scan, they would produce one for you, at a price !

So fitted the new lockwood white with blue leds and got green dials - very dim green dials....Disaster...

Does anyone know what colour the actual text is on the Red/Blue dials when you light em' up? Please tell me it's not actually orange as well - orange bloody orange...

So finally got my dials in and I actually like them in the dark - they obviously are a great improvement in normal lighting conditions but I was worried about what they would look like at night - I needn't have.

The photo's perhaps just show my technical camera incompetance :D

Oh and I bastardised another bulb above the speedo because it did seem dark up there - but not any more...

I rejoice in my new status of 'tinker' and post these photos to show what you guys have inspired me to do.

For all you newbies out there - if I can do this - I promise you - anyone can...

Having read every word on this thread, do I qualify to ask a question or two? What are the new Lockwood dials made from? What were the old ones made from? Why are the three small gauges referred to as FBT? Light is showing through the black part of two of the small gauges on mine, would that be a simple matter of repainting the back of the dial faces? Are the dials lit from the back or the front, in other words is light shining through, or on, the lettering?

They're made of very thin plastic and back lit. The kit comes with O rings to blank out the light behind the dial pivot. FBT = Fun Boy Three!
