I can confidently confirm that regardless of the name assigned to these door trim pieces, on the S2 the backing plastic is a composite that replicates the flexible properties of a chocolate easter egg. My drivers door insert had been 'glued' in by a previous owner with considerably more silicon than necessary and removing it resulted in a 26 piece jigsaw.
As others i also repaired it using fibre glass matting. It worked well but added another day to what would ordinarily have been a half day job.
I think the S2 plastics are a skimp on the quality of the SE equivalent parts. My roof handle/trim panel was a similar story requiring a similar repair.
