I have to agree with all that's been said above. Go ahead with where we are now because where we are now, compared to where we were, is excellent.

Wayne has done a great job on this and, to be fair, so has the company helping him. The last thing we would want to do is lose this company by being over pernickety!

I think you have hit the nail on the head here.... This is currently my concern. That we loose this company. I did not recieve any quote that came close to their price. They have gone out of their way o n several occasoins to make sure that we are happy.

Brit car nut had sent them the correct pantone colour but I have a feeling that this is the best they can do.

I Thought of asking them to go ahead with the current order using the same colour andoffer to send back the kia part and for them to make another batch that more closely match the colour.

Either way we all win. They get more sales.... we get an option..... Current people signed up get a choice of colour... later members get a choice of cracked parts or the alternate colour??

Once again I am open to any advice / comments. If you do not want the current colour option please let me know now.

I will try to look at an alternative but as inktin pointed out I do not want to loose this company due to me being too picky!!

Excellent stuff Wayne and B-C-N.

Appreciate that it is difficult to see in photos, but the colour of the replacement looks better to me than the Kia part! As has been said, they are infinitely better than the broken parts we all have.

Also, I'd be surprised if all the doorcards fitted to all the remaining cars are the same colour (or even that they came out of the factory the same!), so it will be a better match for some and not others.

Personally, I'd go with what you have so far. If people are really really that concerned that the colour is marginally different from what matches for them, then there is always the option for them to get a can of spray paint

Keeping the supplier outweighs the marginal colour difference imho.

Slightly different shade, or cracked/broken escutcheons, its not a difficult choice is it?

When it comes to different shades, I find it difficult to fine many panels that do match.

Time and sunlight have taked their toll ! (that sounds familiar, I think i've seen another body only this morning with similar problems)

Only just caught up with this thread Wayne. (A big well done)

I wouldn't worry about the texture and colour, mainly because Lotus made a few varients over the years. The early Items are just smooth, black painted plastic escutcheons.

Only a Lotus Geek would spot the difference

I tried with a compromise that they make the origional order and try another batch to try to match the Kia colour....

Unfortunatly they said that they can not match it. They say the origional colour before forming matches the Kia part but changes with the heat
and they are not really willing to try again.

So I guess the only colour option is with a slight brown tint that matches the origional part (when it came from the factory... not after spending 20 years in the Middle East!!)..... My appologies to anyone that wanted the Kia colour (which seems to be everyone)!!

If anyone wants to opt out of the "commited to buy" I do not have a problem with this.... I was using it as a guide to determine how many sets to order.

I was told that the parts will take 7 days to make them after I send the final payment... plus shipping, etc....

you have done a fantastic job and have nothing to be embarrassed about. You have arranged for the re-manufacturing of a part that we were told was unavailable. You have made this possible!

As for the colour, I don't think any 2 panels in my Elan match, some are gray, some brown. As someone posted earlier, if the colour is so important, then there are spray paints available.

I for one want an escutcheon in one piece and will be happy to have that.

Just to clarify, the manufacturer said it will take around 7 days to start production with payment required during that time. We don't know exactly how long it will take for the actual production, so, PLEASE don't expect that we will have the parts available to ship out in a couple of weeks. I would expect it will be more like a month, so be patient. All we can do is improve on this as we get more feedback from the manufacturer.

The FINAL price (NOT TO EXCEED 30.00 GBP + outbound shipping) will be based on the total run plus the inbound shipping to the distribution group. Once the final price is calculated - I think you will be pleased with Wayne's frugality.

I will shortly move the list and a link to this posting to a GROUP BUY Post.

Then, we will expect payment before dispatch. Once again, payment by PayPal as a Personal Gift or Payment is preferred. We will most likely have a price in GBP and a price in USD which will be based on the conversion of currency when the escutcheon set price is determined.

Since so many in the UK like to take advantage of the LEC Transport System (parts delivered by members at gatherings and such), there will be two prices for the UK and we will have no way to guarantee speedy delivery to anyone who chooses the LEC Transport System, but if sent by Post, the delivery should be less than 5 days from dispatch to receipt.

There are only a few members from outside the UK and the US, so those will be stuck putting up with whatever delays are caused by multiple Post Office systems.

Both Wayne an I will be very busy for the next few weeks - Wayne's job has him working long shifts 7 days a week and I will be in the hospital for some chemo treatments - but we both expect to be available to start shipping as soon as the product arrives and payments are received.
