Can you make it to Donington this year Brian? not least because there are usually one or two Elans for sale in the carpark - might be a good opportunity to buy one or at least have a proper snoop around if you haven't seen one up close already. Make it as far as the service station rendezvous point and you can ride shotgun with me in the convoy if you haven't got your own Elan by then

The only slight problem I have considering my size is that the drivers seat has sunk a little. Therefore the side cushions pinch a bit.

Yes, I know I can switch the seat bases but Mrs Inkitin has approved the Elan on the basis that the passenger seat is extremely comfortable !!

But, I have a cunning plan, just hope it isn't like Blackadder's.

Removal of the 2 rear spacers under the seat runners makes a hell of a difference to the view out of the windscreen!

Front ones can stay, and it gives a nice seat angle (IMO).

While fitting seat heaters recently I discovered that 6 out of the 10 clips which hold the rubber base (SE only) were snapped & no, I'm not Lardy - well maybe a little bit
I'd been sitting on the carpet all this time
Replaced the clips (still available from Lotus circa £0.75 each IIRC ) and felt like Magnum so removed the rear spacers & fitted shorter ones to the front to keep the angle the same - still not as low as it was tho'

BTW if you do change the spacers be sure to use correct length bolts, especially on the inners as they go into captive nuts.

Buzz, Just my opinion on the situation.

The descision to have animal skins in the car was made by someone else 14+ years ago. Not your problem! Buy the car and enjoy it for what it is, you cannot undo the past. Taking the leather out won't unkill the cow

I could, however, see a natural cotton and wood interior though. It would actually look good and wear well if the work was of a decent quality.

Leather is an organic renewable resourse that has been used since the year dot. It is a byproduct of the meet industry that would be otherwise disposed of (wasted). Its pretty envionmentally sound stuff beets nylon and PVC which cause huge pollution and energy use in there production.

What ever you decide in the end. Enjoy it.
