You're right. They are pretty close together thanks to the guys at Lotus building it that way. I mounted the momo pad on the brake pedal so that the edge of the pad toward the accelerator is flush with the edge of the pedal it's attached to, and I put the one on the accelerator as far right as I could without it hitting anything when depressed.
With the OEM rubber pads when I first bought it, the problem I had was that my foot caught on the backside of the brake pedal when I tried to move it from the gas to the brake. That was fixed by removing the rubber pads. The only thing I notice now is that I will sometimes push a little on the accelerator with the edge of my shoe when I'm braking. I'm getting used to it now, so it almost never happens anymore. I don't think it's that big of a deal anyway, as I'm always also clutching when I'm braking, so the worst that happens is the engine revs a bit. That's nothing compared to the safety issue I had with the OEM rubbers.
One thing for sure, though. I love the way these pedals feel. I didn't expect it to feel so different, but it's surprising how much it does.
