New Carpet

I'm thinking of renewing my carpet. I have been to a upholsterer and they have asked some questions which have been answered after reading through some of the posts relating to this subject.
So, my question to those who have renewed their carpet using a upholsterer were the carpets made in sections and then butted together or other method.
I just need some ideas so that I can give them some pointers on how it's been done.

Sections
Vertical - side of tunnel and cill with a flap onto the horizontal.
Horizontal - from under speaker box forward to underneath the front edge of the seat. From under front edge of seat up under the pedals following the crease with the verlical at the sides. It gets a bit interesting around the wheel arch.

You can either bury the edge in the pile or bind the edge. Depending on carpet, colour, taste etc.

If you keep the separate sections it is easier to remove.

My way of thinking probably won't help you, as your car is far more likely to require something that looks 110% pukka!

When I did mine, the whole shell was pretty empty as it had been stripped and painted, so I had good access.

The carpet I used was 'proper' car carpet (actually for a BMW, but that doesn't really matter!), and is designed to be heat moulded to the right shape - except I bought it flat.

I used the old ones as a sort of template and laid a flat sheet in the footwell, and up the sides to the door and the centre console (It is surprisingly close to a simple bent piece of carpet!)

I then heated up the rear face where the step down to the footwell goes and pressed it to shape with a piece of 4x2.

The very front was sorted with a vertical cut up the corners towards the front (so the floor remained flat), a bit of binding on those edges and overlapped them so it followed the original shape.

As I had replaced the old underlay with closed-cell foam, I build up the voids under the seat so it was all as flat as possible to cut down on the areas which needed 'shaping'. Overall, it shouldn't be a hard car for a proper trimmer to get spot on.

The quote I received was ridiculous so it's gone on the back burner for now.

I made paper patterns for my carpets and had them cut at Coverdale and fitted them myself.

I have a receipt for the carpet from the previous owner.

The Carpet was £230 and the labour was £1100 all plus VAT

This was in 2011
