loose seat mount

Hi

Putting the seats in, the bolt into the front anchor point only goes in about 2 turns before becoming solid almost like it is wrong threaded. I am sure it isn't. On inspection the threaded piece under the floor moves about. The rear anchor point threaded portion is solid. How do I make the the front anchor point solid?

You don’t it is a captive nut and should be loose. I'm sure it's cross threaded, and should go into the captive nut easily. The tolerance stack on the four bolts means that it's almost impossible unless you do them in order. The inner front is the hardest so do that first, top shouldered washer in position but not tight then drop the outer front in loose to hold the seat rail.
Then move the seat forward and do the inner rear. Then back to the outer front to locate the washer and put the nut on loose. Then outer rear. And finally tighten them up.
... You'll be crossing threads and trying to seat the washers all day otherwise.

It's not just tightening them its getting them in and the shoulder washers located. You might need to take the seat out and run a tap through the captive nut if you have forced the crossed thread. That may seem like a faf but it'll take ten minutes; trying to get the inner bolts in last will take you all day!

Another thought, if you have removed the spacers, or used a longer bolt, it won't tighten down as the threaded portion of the bolt will hit the bottom of the cage which holds the captive nut. You will need to use a shorter setscrew or chop a bit off yours.

I tried the bolt in other mounts and it worked fine. As Simon suggested I've bought a tap to run through the nut and hope that will sort the problem. Will let you know the outcome.

I used the tap and put bolts in as suggested. Seat is now securely in place

Hi Chaps - my driver's seat became a liitle loose so took the opportunity to take it out for a good clean. Stupidly I've misplaced all four of the steel shouldered washers to sit the bolts through.....(don't ask!). Can I find some steel M10 shouldered washers on the Net anywhere?...no where..only nylon. Anybody got a good contact? ta Mike

I've never looked, as I've never needed to (but now I've said that, I'll no doubt loose one of mine now!).....

..... I'm not at all sure how necessary they are - I mean, they obviously prevent the seat runner from deforming when you do the bolt up, but I would think that any washer which fits in the hole and is the right thickness, will do the job - even a nylon one should work and prevent the deformation.

That said, and without knowing the exact sizes, I have found these online.... clearly too long, but may be cut down and made to work????

Thanks Dave.. I'll give them a go. The actual hole on the seat fitting (the slider) is larger than a M10 bolt.. so you need the shoulder washer for the bolt to sit snugly in the hole; sounds a bit Heath-Robinson but that's how it works. As always.. thanks for the assist. ta M
