Latest Custom Seats......

Postby Jamie N » Fri 27.01.2023, 16:31

In the 'reasonable price bracket' I think these are the best seats I've found so far that can be adapted to fit our cars, they are from a Mk7 Toyota Celica and a built really well with good
quality leather and operate smooth with great ergonomics. The not so good news is that they are a bit of mission to adapt them to the Elans mounting points, although once completed they
sit beautifully well and virtually drop straight in, tighten the original bolts and off you go.

The factory brackets on the rear of them need the spot welds drilled out and removed completely from the runners, the front needs the brackets repositioned but with an additional part welded
in place which then takes the mounting bolts. The SRS is also removed completely leaving only the plastic cover which is really only visible with the door open so isn't an issue.

Although they are slightly taller than the originals they don't have any interference with the hood at all, closes fine with plenty of clearance all round, the drivers seat is adjustable for height and at the
lowest setting they actually sit a bit lower than the originals, so a possible benefit for taller owners. They weigh 1.4kg less than the factory S2 seats.
They also have the pull to recline / tilt forward as opposed to the Elans wheel, and the forward / back adjust is a far better and easier bar than the small one on the Elan.

The yellow ones are as close as you'll get to NMY, although difficult to pick up the true shade on camera it's very close, I think they would look really good in a NMY or a BRG, the red ones would go with most other colours.

If anyone is interested in changing out their old collapsed seats I currently have 3 sets of these, although not sure which ones I will keep, so 2 sets are definitely available.

There might also be a pair of immaculate S2 seats in red / black with the red piping, visible in the 3rd picture down. I was swithering whether to keep them for the sake of originality but the reality
is the car already has mods, same as most owners, and combined with the fact that I don't intend selling the S2 and I think the latest seats look / operate fantastically well then may as well
clear some space.

The yellow ones side bolsters are actually dark graphite, looks stunning up close, you can see the difference here against the S2 black bolsters.

I also have these one in black / red and another pair which are all red a bit like the red S2K seats although not quite as bright red as these ones.

These look great Jamie!

If I didn't already have a set of S2000 seats fitted I would have been interested in the black & red combo which I think would work best in my black car with grey carpet. They appear to be better sized than the S2000 option particularly around the shoulder support wings area as they are a narrower design and would give a bit more clearance around the B-pillar area. They also sound like they are a lot lighter than the S2000 seats as well so some proper added lightness :D

Bugger! - more money to find/spend!!!

I have S2000 seats that I'm happy with, but when I showed these yellow ones to Angie she demanded a pair for her car.

It won't be for a while yet, as no point in putting yellow seats in a blue car - so I'll stick to the black perforated ones for now, and hope she has forgotten about these type when the car gets sprayed.....
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Has Angie seen the blue ones in my blue car before?

She doesn't like blue! - That was one of the reasons I got this car - I know its history, and it needs paintwork...... so it won't remain blue in the longer term. These seats would look great in a NMY car (but hopefully I'll get away with just keeping the OE seats when refurbed a bit).

You got me very excited there for a few days Jamie! Until I confirmed that those lovely yellow seats were never an option on the Mk7 Celicas imported to Australia. Bugger.

I never did think that the seats in my Norfolk Yellow Mustard S2 were very comfortable, securing the leather under the seats only lasts a month or two before they set themselves free again, and when I took them out to measure for possible replacement seats, I was staggered to discover how much they and their rails weigh.

Any of the recognised alternatives for the seats are ludicrous prices here, partly because so few Honda S2000s were sold here I suspect, and anything Mercedes always has a suitably large price tag attached in our wrecker yards.

And I can only imagine that just the cost of shipping a pair of your "spare" seats here would spoil a good idea.

Oh well…

Couldn't imagine the price of sending a pair of seats to Oz Barry, 'colossal' would be one way of describing it :D . It would be a moot point anyway as all of the custom seats are gone.

If anyone is interested in a very clean pair of seats from a low mileage S2 though.........could be a bargain for someone. ;-)

Difficult to find that spot here with Mrs N's collection of them taking up all the space . For some reason the girls go crazy for them whenever she puts one up for sale, even Jocks in Frocks. :-D :-D

She's car mad....as long as they're feckin pink.

They're either bought already painted or she gets it resprayed by a family friend Jonathan, and occasionally I've been arm twisted into painting one for her, never a wrap though.

Can't really frown about it too much, we're obsessional about our Elans, she's obsessional about pink cars, just a pity it's more often than not a nasty Peugeot, nasty and temperamental regardless of its particular hue. :x

. . . A nasty Peugeot . . .

Agreed - such a shame as my two Peugeots (a 205GTI 1.9 and a 309GTI) were brilliant cars. Company’s lost its way over the last 20 years.

Thanks Steve.

Update on the latest pinky in the area, this was painted by Mercedes from new, a unique 1 of apparently , some will say thank FFT :-D , strangely enough this is a Honda colour, and is marked as such on the vin plate.
Great driving car but has some odd features, eg no dipstick, you check the oil level through diagnostics .
