PNM engineering rear brake calipers

Finally got the car back today after 2 weeks of waiting missed the summer nearly brakes feel very different i now have a fair amount of pedal travel and much more feel, just need to get confident with them and get used to them.

Well they haven't lasted long offside caliper has started to leak from the seal spoke to Peter and he is sending another caliper and want the old one back asap to check. Hope this one doesn't take as long to arrive as they were 2 weeks late last time and that they can suffer same as Hi-spec's

Is the hand brake mechanical or Hydraulic like the Hi Spec ?

Unless I am very much mistaken C&U regs require handbrakes to have a different operating sysytem to the brakes. So both PNM and Hi-Spec are mechanical, even if they do both operate on the same piston that the hydraulic brake system uses.

Replaced caliper again today

That's disappointing.
Hopefully this is either a 1-off defect or something which can be fixed with a slight modification?

Peter assures me that it was a one off and its not happened before. All I can do is wait and see. I've noticed that a part of the caliper is painted ?? Not sure why it is if its new unless its to cover markings from its original purpose

A few questions about these:

Was the leaky piston a 1-off?
What is the handbrake travel like & how well does it hold?
How do the dynamic brakes perform?

Rip, replacement seems fine so I assume it was a one off. Handbrake is just like standard and appears to work fine, lastly the feel is much better than with hispecs only on the front. Best way to explain it is they now feel like modern brakes. The pedal travel is longer but there is plenty of feel now. Happy to let you try mine when I next see you.

Isn't that a contradiction? My std handbrake (well, on my Dorman calipers anyway) is pathetic. Anyone who was at Nick & Kim's wedding last year will remember it rolling across the car park & there is a huge amount of handbrake travel before it engages. Any improvement on this will be warmly accepted.
& my current rear brakes nearly caused my Elan to fail its MOT this year so I am very tempted by a set of these.

Mine handbrake was fine before as well though so its not easy to tell difference. It feels no different to apply and holds well

Does anyone have an idea of the original source of the calipers PNM have used? As I'm on the other side of the planet, I'd like to try to find a pair locally and make up the necessary other bits. That said, the convienance of having a complete kit is tempting.

I have had my elan roll out of a carpark on a slight incline in Wales when the hand brake let go, I don't want that to happen again!

I just got my kit as my old calipers had died I was not happy with my kit as it did not fit properly. The pads over hanged the discs by 8mm PNM said this was ok but I will not fit It on my car.

Dorman calipers given up the ghost, handbrake been non existent for 12 months. Winged MOT last year but not this time. So are these a straight fit with standard read hubs & 16' wheels. I have AP calipers on front.

Almost the same with mine. I'm not looking to replace rather than refurb.

got some adjustment out of handbrake and just squeezed through MOT but looking to these PNMs come the spring.
