Wishbones (rear)

Postby Tannerman » Wed 20.09.2017, 16:44

Hi guys ,
after nearly 10 happy years of ownership I think it is nearly the time to change the rear wishbones.
They have always passed the MOT and visually they are hole free but the metal sounds thin to me . I recenty lowered the car and I'm conscious about the extra strain.
My car is one of the first ones registered March 90 so i suspect they aren't the galv ones.
I know there are some beautiful stainless ones out there but at nearly a grand I can't justify the cost.
I'm in no rush but if someone has a good galv pair (ahem) at a sensible price then I would be interested.
Thanks guys
John

I'd make them out of wood before I paid their prices :D I think it's me I'm really mindful I'm in a 27 year old car I'm sure I I'll drop on some at sometime...cheers for reply

Aaron (TSW cowboy) was trying to flog me a pair earlier in the year (until I told him I already had galvanised ones on my SE).... not sure of the price as we were a bit pi$$ed and working things out in Thai Baht......

..... at the time it seemed like big numbers (as it always is in Baht!) - I could have bought a LOT of ping-pong balls for the numbers he was quoting  (but still cheaper than DVB!!!)

He doesn't get on here much any more, but I can drop him a line if it's any use to you (he is currently in Burma, but returns to UK every few weeks - how urgently do you want some (I mean time-wise, NOT trying to make a quick buck!!!!).
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually.....

Hi Dave, Can't imagine how the conversations that night went..lol
No rush at all like I said I've spent a fortune on the red devil over the years and I'm mindful the rear wishbones are 27 years old and not galv, they have always passed the MOT but if you tap them they sound thin (if best makes sense) if I could drop on some for a sensible pro I'll swap them out, I'll drop him a line and ask how much he wants and if he still has them, I'm not dressing up as a ladyboy though
Cheers John

At the particular establishment we were frequenting, I believe that the going rate was 5 ping-pong balls for 100 Baht (I didn't buy any, but Clemo did borrow 300 Baht off me....)

So, your price seems like quite a good deal as it would be about £450 at todays exchange rate :D

(I'm assuming that you did all the maths before posting your comment - but if not, it ain't far off!!)

I have to confess I didn't do any prior calculation Dave. It was just a figure plucked out of nowhere. But I'm glad the calculation works out.

Seem to remember Clemo getting a lot less than 1000 used ping pong balls on EBay and wish I'd done a private deal :(

What on earth would someone do with a thousand used ping pong balls or shouldn't I ask :D
I'm sure I saw a film involving ping pong balls when I was younger...it's all come flooding back
I've sent a PM so I'll,await the response
Cheers guys
