So that's off a 88-94 Senator or 87-93 Carlton.

BUGGER! I was hoping that the top of the range models might have a remote release option but apparently not. Any chance anyone can confirm or deny?

I used a 90 degree bracket, attached using the bolts for the latch, to hold the outer cable and then ran the inner cable through the hole in the latch and put a crimp on the end to hold it.

I will post pictures of the fuel release later when I get a chance to take the trim off and take some pics.

Smudge,

I did the job a couple of years ago, so the links are unlikely to be there still, but if you just put 'solenoid' in the search facility, you should get lots of similar items for sale :D

tweetdriver63 wrote:I haven't been following this thread, but here's my 2 Cents worth (actually worth nothing in today's economy).

The car doesn't have a remote boot release, so you can leave valuables in the boot when the hood is down. If there's a remote release, a thief could just reach in, open the boot, and take your stuff. Personally, I rely on this security feature quite often, and I'm glad there's no remote release. I would be sure the release is located in a hidden spot, or has a locking mechanism of some sort.

One of my other projects is to add remote gas, trunk and tonneau release buttons. I gave the concern about security some thought then decided it wasn't worth being concerned about for the following reasons.

First, all that a car alarm in general does is to stop the casual and semi-professional thief from taking the car or its contents. If a profesional thief wants your car or whatever's in it they will find a way. Second, its a convertible. So, if someone's determined to get access to the trunk, for example, they don't need to push the trunk release button. They'll cut the roof, pry it open or get access other ways very quickly. In fact, you could argue that letting them access the release may save additonal damage to the car. Lastly, I'm simply going to mount mine on the underneath surface of the knee bolster so its out of sight.

I hear what you're saying about security but the practical side of me thinks that having a remote release or not won't deter someone from getting my stuff if they are determined to break in. The convenience factor outweighs the security issue for me. Besides, this method posted by alexg is a great alternative to cutting up the trunk/boot lid :-D

I fitted mine as per Dapinky following his instructions - the solenoid I used allows the boot to stay open with no adjustment - I used a SAAB switch bought on ebay for £2

I have these two solenoids with fittings spare - so for a contribution to LEC funds I can send them out to the first two LECers to respond

Or you could use one for the fuel cap release ;-) (It doesn't half confuse the MOT tester!)

Nobby here is how I wired up the solenoids using the Volvo switch. I got the 12v power from behind the speaker enclosure, as there is a spare fuse location there and its a good place to locate the 2 relays.

Have you tried 'wobbling' the boot lid while someone presses the release button.... if this doesn't work....

....Badge off !!

Tried all that!!!

Pulled off the badge tonight, which removed some paint also :( opened it with my finger!!!

The solenoid is working but not opening the catch, hopefully its just got jammed in the closed position like the doors do now and again!

I will give it another go when its dry and i have some daylight and see if i can make it serviceable in-case of future problems!!!

Could you get a bigger badge to cover the damage?

Lost the lock many moons ago after the Valet guy decided to Jet wash it loose! :(

Thought of the idea of the hinged badge, but I dont think there is enough room in the space :( or a badge that will fit :(

Prob just try and fix the mechanism when i have time and stick the badge back and keep my fingers crossed it dont happen again!
