Toying with the idea of the Black & Red theme

Postby m100sandra » Tue 01.04.2014, 17:12

Now that i have Black wheels on the Elan together with a bit more power etc, ime toying with the idea of getting the mirrors painted red  I think the Black Minis and some Lotus's etc really look good more so with my Elan already following this theme with the Black & red interior, Red HiSpecs etc(although things like this are a personal taste thing) All that making me 50-50 is that all of the mods done so far are easy reversible i.e. all of the standard parts retained, saying that i suppose the mirrors could be painted back to black
A pic of a evora showing what i mean........

I think that's a good look. Plus, red rubber paint for the front spoiler lip?

I think it looks naff IMO. Boy racer, pimp my ride springs to mind  Or you've been to DVB and got a couple of red ones and not had them painted

Keep it all black - it looks great just as it is

You need to get rid of the amber perspex side and front indicator covers Sandra. It doesn't look contemporary and spoils the otherwise fantastic appearance. Clear side light covers are available ex Vauxhall from memory and the front ones from leonfoxy

MGF side indicators are a good fit

You're correct novocaine - it was MGF side indicators I fitted on mine, NOT Vauxhall.

Very cheap and a distinct improvement on the fuddy duddy ambers ;-)

The repeaters are even more easily available than that - just find any Rover 25 or MG ZR and they're exactly the same.

As for the fronts (and rears if you're feeling brave!), I got mine from Wolfie308 AKA Protocast, although it's about a year since he last posted on the forum - may still receive PM notifications though...

Anyway have a browse through this thread and see what you think - it has plenty of pics of converted ones showing some very nice effects:

I just dug out my receipt for the clear side repeaters. Can't believe i did them over 10 years ago   How time flies. got them for a tenner a pair from an MG garage ;-)

Never got round to doing the front ones though as leonfoxy still hasn't read the PM I sent him in 2008. The message is still sitting in my outbox FFS  Might try Wolfie at Protocast if he's still on the go ?? Rambo could do with a bit of tarting up around the edges ;-)

I probably was Jim but it was back in 2004 and I'm not sure if E bay was born then ? If it was, I didn't do it (along with FaeceBook and Twatter   )

Sorry left off the ;)

You've had the Elan for 10 years +? Blimey?

Sorry for thread hi jack. Personally I like the idea of red trim - I did try some silver decals (vide RenaultSport) but got such a flaming I removed them. Jim

For what my opinion's worth I'm 100% behind the red trim. Perhaps not on the mirrors but in other locations that add a subtle touch and break up the all black look. On your new wheels (lots of red wheel adhesive tape on eBay), on the front spoiler as in the pic you posted or other places.

Geoff, Caryn's car looks like it's just had its nails done. All black was the right choice, Sandra!
