No Martin - What I really want is one of those that is press for Lo / press for high / press for off.

Looking at the seat recliner cover there is just room for the switch there. Could be quite neat but a bit out of the way - Thoughts?

If you put them both in this cover, one on each seat, then you will unable to see over to the passenger side to see if it is on or off and, worse, be unable to reach to turn it off should someone have left it switched on!

Mine are either side of the mirror switch, the depth is tight but they do fit, look ok and are easy to reach!

Martin, ditto Lotos' question and is it the same size as one of the standard switches?

Good luck finding one - took me over 3 years, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right places.....

What's it from? Any part number I can use?

The Switch is a standard GM Size, but the plastic rockers are shorter, thus if it were next to another switch it would be noticeable.

Well I'm not sure - not visible and covered by the seatbelt! But quite neat!

I think you misunderstood - Thank you for your comment - I agree. I have also checked and not only can you not see the switches, but they are covered by the seatbelt. So I have disagreed with Rip as this is less useful than the clock!

Here is the double switch in pieces
Double Heated Seat Switch.JPG

Take the rockers off first, then remove back from front housing.

Notice the sprung pins in the housing they have a tiny nib which fits in a groove to keep them in line.

Terminals are silver plated - polish with silver polish.

:)

Have you got a plan to try configuring them up to do anything other than on/off? Saw your previous comment re. Off/low/high and wondered if there could be a way of using one of these switches per seat, maybe? I guess it depends on the heated seat kit you have in mind (or have).

Well I did have lots of plans, but they have been overtaken by the need for an engine rebuild, and associated (project creep) front and rear suspension rebuild. I was going to do that anyway, but it is easier with the engine out!

I don't like drilling holes, so the swith you mentioned is the best option - I had it apart to see if it can be modified, but given other projects I will probably use as-is on or off.

It only took me 6 months to find one!

So how about mounting the switch here:
You need to remove the socket for the A/C switch and push it out of the way, but I used the socket for a switched feed and panel light feed.

Still needs some final fettling with a surround and to pull it forward flush with the standard switches. But obviously you can only fit it here when you buy a kit with this type of switch!

I suppose, if you could find another one, they could easily be wired up so that one side does the base, and the other the backrest - that way there is some sort of variable heat output..... or with one switch operating both seats at the same time it would still be possible (except you're heating up a seat which may not be occupied)

John.

I made a surround out of a spare piece of rigid carbon fibre sheet using a dremmel and more patience than I can usually muster.

By using a suitable quantity of double-sided sticky stuff (about 4 layers seemed right to me) on the back of the surround, trimmed with a scalpel, it fits flush with the adjacent switch and the switch just clips onto the surround in the normal way.

You could used any rigid material (plastic, Aluminium, Steel) for the surround, and just paint it black, or even yellow if you wanted to ;-)
