I'm pretty sure this has never been attempted but someone may come along and prove me wrong. Since the Elan uses an Isuzu 1.6l turbo engine you might also want to try some Isuzu forums to see if anyone has tried it.

This remembers me of the guy on the MR2 forum who converted his SW20 into LPG (I'm from the Netherlands, LPG county!)
After the conversion he took it for a spin and....
... Crashed it at the first spirited corner!!!
It turned out that the fine handling balance of the car war ruined by putting a heavy LPG tank in the back.
I like the idea, but it is not for me. Also: The mpg of the Elan is not that bad! Leave it as is I would say...

My first thought (well, second really, after "Why?") is that there may not be sufficient space under the bonnet for the fuel manifolds - the throttle body is already very close to the lid, and where would you put the gas tank?
Commonly, they may go in the spare wheel well, but the boot floor of the elan isn't supported directly by the chassis (on the overhanging bit), and the recommended maximum boot weight limit is 40Kg. any tank which fitted in that space (or custom made across the boot floor) wouldn't hold much gas before the weight started to become an issue. (The current fuel tank is located well forward of the rear bumper).
As with anything - it CAN be done, but may not be simple, and probably not worthwhile, but each to their own.

Two Elans
Its the only solution, and fly to Italy.
My wife's just divorced me because I wouldn't open the car door for her!
To be fair I panicked and swam straight for the surface.

I'm away at the moment but ill pm you when I get back. I've run LPG for over a decade but not on an Elan. I do know of one Elan with an LPG conversion and it was mentioned on this forum.
Try a search
