Big bore exh. upgrad turbo, larger injt. mountain chip.

Postby delta » Sun 09.04.2017, 03:15

This thread is intended to bring together all the information on the subject in one thread. !!!!!!!.

There are many who now who runs with big bore exhaust, upgraded turbo, larger injectors, closed loop circuit and mountain chip. The information about these upgrades is spread over so many threads that it is difficult to get an overview of what is done, why, and how it works. This is therefore an appeal to all those who have made the modifications, to share their experiences with everyone else, so we have a place to discuss the various parameters involved in the modifications, and not least how to control of the fuel, avoiding driving too lean or too rich.

It will be interesting to know .:
1. What alternative turbos are being used.
2. How large bore exhaust are being used.
3. What type of injectors, for example. 522cc, and which make.?.
4. What mountain chip along with which type of ECM with which memcal. Could it be any type.?.
5. Which leads must be swapped in mains connector to the ECM to eliminate the CO2 potentiometer and connect the O2 lampdasensor.
6. Can the car after this go through the MOT without problems.
7. What was the gain in BHP.
8.Other needed modifications, eks. re-ported waste-gate.?.
9. 3 bar mapsensor, or.?.

This information will be vital for members of LEC who are considering making these upgrades. Much of the information is already on the forum, but spread over so many different threads, that it is impossible to assemble an overview. And we also need one place where there can be discussion for and against the modifications, and the engine management problems they may arise.

I'm hoping that those who have made the upgrades will chip in here with all the info and experience they have. Thanks.!.

The big idea here is to combine a larger turbo that gives more pressure / air with larger injectors providing more fuel, and here by increasing BHP yield significantly. It is a challenge to find the injectors providing an appropriate amount of gasoline to an appropriate turbo pressure, so the engine will not work under too rich or too lean condition.
The primary management system will still be the existing ECM, however manipulated by a mountain chip and 3 bar MapSensor to believe it is still operating under normal conditioner. This in combination with a Lampda probe, which continuously controls the amount of CO2 and screws up/down of the fuel level in order to ensure an appropriate level of CO2, and can help, keeping the mixture level within a safe operating range. There are several here at LEC who has gone that way ore are on the road and there is a need for your experience, as I think there are many others who would like to go the same way.!. So write your experience here and tell us what you have done. Which turbo/injectors you are using, how much BHP it has given, and what the problems are with the management of the system.

As previously said, there is a lot of information on the subject at the LEC forum already, but it is not together, hard to find and therefore also hard to get an overview of how such a system should be put together and which components to use. There's a lot of different parameters that plays' a role in this management system as well, so share your experience with us, so we do not all have start from scratch but can build on the experience already gained.

So please, chip in,Come on, not so shy.!.

Stock Turbo, Stock injectors, 220 BHP.

No fuss with bigger turbo + all that is needed to get it running safe and reliable, and introducing a bigger turbo gap and loose drivability in the process...

I would spend my money in low-end torque / HP upgrades. Then again my knowledge is quite limited as 95% of it comes from this very forum :gathering: .
Have a chat with LGM is she's up to it. She has all the knowledge and hands on experience in the upgrades you desire.

HJ: Delta is talking about the "Bling Machine" which he bought with a lot of changes including a larger Turbo and it was never dialed in. The previous owner was going to use a different ECM but it still sits in a box and would require massive amounts of research and testing to get it even close. Delta is trying to see what others did when they installed the LGM turbos and other upgrades.

Um.....i don't think this is what the OP wanted ;).

He wanted a list of specifications of peoples engines/mods and power outputs in one place. Not redirected all over the place - again

Sorry:

My setup:
1. S2, closed loop
2. Switcher (on programme 4 which should be Elysum by my book)
3. Stock turbo in excellent condition, 21.5 mm wastegate port
4. New OEM exhaust manifold
5. reconditioned head + new OEM gasket
6. My modified piper downpipe
7. 1'st bend is Piper as well (2.25")
8. After 1st bend it is all PECO 2.25"
9. Stock intercooler + pipes
10. New injectors
11. MSD Coils
12. Simple and straight forward Bosch sparkplugs

And a set of Hi Spec's to stop all of the above again :-)

Great stuff !! This is actually a good idea to compare peoples set ups.

It's worth remembering that he lambda (O2) sensor is only used when there is no boost.

Yes otherwise it would need to be a wideband one, allowing to target a much richer mixture than the 14.7 stoichiometric typical value (up to 11~10.5 if I remember correctly)
