Must say the Goeffs little box of tricks are superb and easy to fit, you can control the brightness of the LEDs for night and day and control the when the leds alluminate on the revs.
Personley i prefer the single LED as i don`t want to to be look at lights until i hit between 6.5k & 7k revs plus it`s more discret, my rev gauge must be out as i can go over 7k :?

For trackdays it does help :-D

Great Work Geoff

Who much do they cost, as I would love to add one to mine.

I don't know how many time I have hit the limiter, and nearly knocked myself out on the wheel !!!!

If I find some time over the next few weeks, I may be able to make a few more. Who wants one then?

Can't remember what the YouTube link was (probably Monty's thinking about it and it looks like all his vids are now private!) but what about mine:

John, it's a very low key project as I have had fun sorting out the technical issues and the time spent building them (especially the 10 LED version) is disproportionate to what I feel I can charge: I can't commit vast amount of time to it I'm afraid. Some people have asked me for them in the past (mainly for track use) and I will try and build and supply them at little over cost. I'll probably do what I did with Monty and send out both the single and multi LED version (once the wiring is in places, they are interchangeable) and let people decide which they perfer then build up a replacement when I have the inclination. If anyone is competent with a soldering iron however, I'll consider getting a kit of parts and instructions put together.

Continuing to supply interfaces and developing the window drop/lift module & datalogger and a couple of more specials are more important and will take precedence I'm afraid.

I have had a couple of enquiries about these, but having lost access to my prototyping machine, I will have to run a batch of pcbs off so it will need a few takers to make it worthwhile. I can cost up a small run if there are sufficient numbers. Is anyone else interested?

Hi Geoff, I am interested but can't recall all the details of what you were working on. I do remember thinking that its all about where the LED is. Do we drill a hole in the instrument cluster so its right there? Do we mount it on the fascia somewhere? To me it needs to be where we can easily see it without taking our eyes of the road. If its a simple yet large LED we can put anywhere we want then that's great as we call all do as we wish. Of course, one that is multicolor with yellow at 6K rpm and red at 6.5K rpm would be nice........
:bananasex:

There are a number of these so called "switchback" led's on eBay that can glow red or yellow depending upon the +ve feed wire. In fact, there are circular "angel eye" versions that can be cut such that you could fit a section of the ring around the tach dial.

There's also this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0PiiIkUV8M

These guys do a lot of stuff and I recently bought some control modules from them for a little project I'm working on. The entire cluster backlighting changes colour as the rpm's rise. That will get your attention.

Or just the Tach if you like.

I've taken onboard your suggestions Blair and added some lightness: A 2mm single LED sits happily under the top of the binnacle right in the line of sight. :D

Img_0125x640+.jpg

Actually that's a bit of a fib because that's now my temperature warning light (which alerted me to my total loss of coolant on the M4 last August, so it does grab your attention) just below my rev lights (whose 10 LEDs count up between 3000 and 6000RPM, turn from green to red between 6000 and 7000RPM then the whole front panel flashes red above 7000RPM) on top of the binnacle:

Another method is to put a big 10mm LED in the binnacle cover so it's pointing up and reflects off the windscreen rather like a HUD.
