How does it give you an advantage going off the lights? I cant get away from the instinctive change of gear. Do you ignore your feelings of when to change up and follow the lights? Please help to explain how to use the lights. M&A

Monty, Nige and Phil want one for track use when you can't hear the engine from inside a crash helmet and you're too busy concentrating on other things to watch the rev counter.

I've got to add the extra circuitry then completely lay out the board again as it was a tight design into a small box. Originally, I had designed in an adjustable dim control for night time, so the LED doesn't dazzle at night, but I now think that this is arse-about face and it needs to be fixed at night and adjustable in daylight - it was bright enough before Castle Combe but out on track in strong sunshine, it wasn't bright enough. It is a fairly simple mod to make when I do the layout but it's going to be a few weeks as I'm decorating at the moment.

Phil has an LED to mount in his dash, so his will plug into the BOT (box of tricks). Nige has given me a spare radar detector which I will cannibalise and of course he is having the full F1 style display from 3000RPM to 7200RPM - it's quite impressive even if I say so myself! I can configure it so you can plug an LED into your BOT (mounted on the top of the dash) or have it on a remote extension lead like Phil's.

Geoff

You know that you love to squeezing you small bits in to a tight box :smt082

Don`t know why it need to be on at night time :? why not just have it on a switch so it can be turned off for night driving?

Be good to see both versions, the F1 is sounding more appealing but rather have it inside the instrument cluster. Keep up the good work and maybe i`ll get a trackday in to test one :-D

No chance for June. Malvern is on though - you can try them both out for me and see which one you prefer. I'll have one for Phil as well.

Monty-proofed unit finally built! Night time lights - kicks in just below 3000RPM and set to change from green to red at ~6000RPM.

I could do with an advanced driver who does track days and uses their car on a daily basis to travel from WSM to Portished to try it out..... wonder if I'll bump into such a person at Malvern. :smt017

As i now work in sunny Weston, I no longer fit the bill exactly - but you're unlikely to find anyone closer to the requirements you set (especially one who will be at Malvern!)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

go on - click this link - you know you want to!

The range is variable (first light on to last light on) over the approximate ranges and the colour change is selectable on the eighth, ninth or tenth LED:

Min : 2500-6700 #8@5800, #9@6300 & #10@6700
Mid : 2700-7100 #8@6200, #9@6600 & #10@7100
Max : 2900-7600 #8@6600, #9@7100 & #10@7600

The middle range and setting #8 were used in the video.

I haven't priced it up yet but I'll let you know.

Nice work Geoff (although I can't view the video from here). I'm not in any rush at the moment as the opportunity to use it is quite limited and I haven't found any tracks here, never mind about track days. I'll have to sort something out for September.
