Flasher

Postby jello » Tue 21.02.2006, 02:47

Anyone have a cross reference to this part?? Mine went bad, I took it out and the manual says it should be grey, but it was translucent blue. It is a Hella part, and I took it to the local (good) parts house, and they said NLA, but there is another that works, but they can't get it. Got any leads for me.

Good news for anyone in need of a replacement flasher module either because their's is dead or if you want to upgrade your tail/turn/stop ;ights to LED's like I did. The Trico (sold as Tridon in Canada) EP-26 module is a direct replacement and works great. It also supports LED lights so there's no longer any need to install resistors to fool the OEM flasher module into thinking you've still got incandescants installed (otherwise you get the rapid blinking bulb burnt out syndrome). Since the resistors give off a lot of heat and could potentially melt things around the lights eliminating them is a bonus.

Here's the link:

I'm sure these are also available outside North America. Keep in mind that I tested on a Fed car although the flasher modules appear to be identical.

Just had to replace the flasher unit on my S2. The one that came out is a Lucas 19FL 35080A 3 pin unit. It looks to me, from a bit of googling, that the Trico EP-26 is a four pin unit, so it looks as though the part is different on the S2 to the Fed Elan.
I took it into a couple of auto part stores and replaced it with a Ring Automotive RFL3 12V 98W max (see link)

Paul, the timing of your post could not be better. :-D

When I replaced my flasher one thing I noticed was that the instrument indicator bulb was no longer working. Everything else was fine - the modile "clicking", the lights on the car actually working, etc. just not the dash light. Now, I was doing some custom dash work at the time and attributed this little issue to that and lived with it. But I'm now taking the dash apart to finsih up some minor details and wanted to address this again. I know its not the bulb burnt out.

Unfortunately, I can't find my original flasher module now - buried somewhere I hope. So, I was about to post to ask if someone had a picture of their's that I could compare to ensrue the pinouts were the same. I do seem to recall that the one I pulled out was a 4 pin module but I could be wrong.

Anyone have an SE flasher module they could post a pic of (underside with the pins and numbering showing)???

:agree: Was reading it too Blair. As far as I've been able to find out, the EP26 is a four pin yet the circuit diagram and Paul's are three pin. Your link to the Trico part is dead Blair - was there any technical information?

Mine's identical to Paul's (Lucas 19FL 35080A 3 pin unit) and pinouts correspond to the Ring automotive one with pins labelled the same (clockwise from the left) 31 [-], 49a [L] and 49 [+] which correspond to the Hazard switch labelling.

EP-26 pinout - extra pin labelled C2???

I'm trying to find out what the C2 terminal does (we don't have them in the UK and I haven't managed to find a US wiring diagram) - is it to do with side repeaters????

This link should help. It says that the C2 pin is indicator lamp 2. We only have one indicator lamp in our cars though.

Probably for the trailer. Thus the "trailering" designation on the module??? Would be nice to know why I'm not getting any signal to the dash lights though.

I've searched unsuccessfully many times for something like this - thank you! I now think that the extra C2 terminal is for the side repeaters that I believe are fitted to the N. American cars - could you confirm? You should also have an e-mail.

I can't get that link to work for me either (the tridon/trico one). Here's anotherthat has the same info but with slightly different model numbers. I think the one I've installed is equivalent to the FET16 listed here. Note also in the descriptions that it is the same as the FET13 above it but with a 4th pin for a trailer connection.

I'm not sure about the side repeaters on the Fed car Geoff. As for as the Elan goes, we have none (unless you meant Fed cars on general). The large side lights on the Fed Elans are only marker lights - they come on with the parking lights and don't flash or do much of anything at all. If I look at the pic of the stock flasher and compare it to the FET13 diagram then I see the same pinouts except that the 19a in the stock module is replaced by a 49a. Same as in the 4 pin flasher I am using now. The link I posted earlier indicates that a 49a pin is for "output". It doesn't indicate what a 19a pin does though.

I'm going to pick up an EP-35 (or equivalent) flasher and try that. Its the 3 pin version I likely should have got the first time. Hopefully it will also be rated for LED bulbs. There must be some connection either in the EP-36 module I have now or in the wiring harness and hazard switch connections that are hooked up to this extra pin that is causing the dash light not to come on............

Wow - I posted the question 14 years age. I put about 130,000 on the car. I had an oil line blow - I replaced the oil line, and had the engine rebuilt. I had an accident that took the car off the road about 4 years ago. Now I'm getting it back in shape with a new front bumper fabricated for it.

What do I find - the same flasher problem I had 14 years ago. All lights work. Signals flash appropriately. Hazard lights flash. Dash indicator shows the flash with the hazard lights. But no dashboard indicator when a signal is on.

I posted elsewhere on the forum, but that was before I had repaired all the blown fuses, and checked the lights.

I looked at the wiring diagram, and it appears that the flasher indicator on the dash is not grounded - it grounds through a light somewhere.

Any advise from the list?
