IAC Valve

Postby ashm » Mon 01.03.2010, 17:55

According to RockAuto, the following part is an equivalent of the stock IAC in the Impulse RS:
DELPHI #CV10000

And it's available here in the UK for £26.95 from www.autogateway.co.uk, as a part for:

09/1991 to 08/1994 Vauxhall Astra 1.6
(Mk III 1.6 i, Petrol, Engine C16NZ, SOHC 8V, FWD Hatchback)

But vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk tells me that the IAC (They call it an "Idle Filler"?) for this C16NZ engine in the 85-93 Astra is also correct for:

Nova with C12NZ , C13N , C14NZ , C16NZ engines
Corsa 1993 - 2001 with X14SZ engines
Tigra 1993 - 2001 with X14SZ engines
Astra 1985 - 1993 with C16LZ , C16NZ , E16NZ , C18NZ engines
Astra 1992 - 1998 with 16LZ2 , 16NZ2 , C16NZ , X16SZ , 16NZR , X16SZ , 16NZR , X16SZR , C18NZ engines
Astra 1998 - 2004 with X16SZR engine
Zafira 1998 - 2004 with X16SZR engine
Cavalier 1982 - 1988 with E16NZ , C16LZ , C16NZ engines
Cavalier 1989 - 1995 with E16NZ , C16NZ , C16NZ2 , C16LZ2 , X16SZ , C18NZ engines
Vectra 1996 - 2001 with 16LZ2 , X16SZR , 16LZ2 engines

SO having a quick search around I find THIS available for £12.95, and it looks like the right part. They've also got one on eBay, here.

Anybody able to confirm/deny? I've just ordered one so I'll find out soon in any case!
Cheers,

Adam

Looks very similar at least.

I was having all sorts of idle issues, then took my IAC out and gave it a good clean. It was quite gunked up with a black sooty coating... maybe just the result of 20 years breathing sooty exhaust from the cars in front? Who knows, anyway the car behaved much better after cleaning it (and the little hole it fits in), but some of the same idle problems have been creeping back again recently. Maybe a new IAC will sort it out...

Ok, so the part I ordered above is NOT the correct part... it's very close, but the connector points the wrong way.
It _can_ be made to fit, with a little gentle coaxing (if you've got a set of needle files...) but I wouldn't recommend it unless you've already bought one.

Unfortunately as I was removing the old IAC, one of the screw heads sheared off, leaving the screw in the manifold
I'll have to think about how I'm going to get that out, there's barely room for a screwdriver in there!

if you go onto rock auto and look up this part you can then click the blue part number. it will show you what other acrs it fits. there are pleanty that you wouldnt even think of. the thing is you have to click them all because the cross reference list doesnt list all models the same for each one. i just did this for audi struts. one maker will list ten apps for the thing and you click on another and it lists 20. strange.

Be careful though as Rockauto list {Type A} as Airtex / Wells Part # 2H1020 {#17111826, 8171118260, AC106} as this:

Image

and {Type B} as Kemparts Part # 150107 as this

Image

The connector on the first one appears to be in the same orientation as the one Adam got and is 90° different to the second one and to Specky's picture (Specky, are the purple pictures of the correct one out of your engine or the wrong one off FleaBay?):

Image

--------------------
And there's more.... I'm confused or someone appears to have it wrong because Topont show the Type A = AC15 & 17111826 for VW and Type B = A95214 & 17112023 for Astras!
--------------------
And these buggers show Type C (connector in line with mounting holes) for 17111826!!!

Yep, it is a pickle!

You can come a cropper just blindly chasing through xref lists, because in many engines there will be clearance for the connector to go either way, so half the parts listed will fit the Elan and the other half won't. Two hops and you could end up looking at a list of parts that ALL point the wrong way.
Probably best to stick to the ones listed for the Impulse unless you can get a good photo of the part you're buying.

It was off Ebay, but off an Elan Engine.

It matches the engines I have.

So out of interest I ordered one of the Kemparts 150107 IAC valves... (it was only $27, and I was interested)
...and it's also got the connector pointing the wrong way! :(

I've just drilled out the blind roll pins (grr! Stupid type of fastener...) that hold the connector part onto the rest of it, rotated the connector 120 degrees and put it back together. I messed up the holes a bit so I epoxied it rather than re-pin, which would be the better option.

Now the connector is fitted in a usable direction, and the modified IAC appears to work perfectly. So it seems all is not lost if you've bought a part with the wrong connector orientation.
By the way, if anyone else tries to take one of these apart - be careful! There are some fragile bits inside.

It looks like this is an old thread, I hope it is still open.

I recently bought an IAC valve. The holes are 44mm centre to centre, and the electrical socket is 25 degrees anticlockwise from the axis of the holes as you look at it from the socket end.

I haven't removed the old valve yet, and before I do so, could somebody tell me if this will suit without modifcation. Thank you.

The hole measurement matches, but the angle is not per the OEM one. I had one similarly oriented and did the "drill out and rotate" hack as described in this thread (because I couldn't get the connector on otherwise). Mine was an even cheaper version that I found on RockAuto that didn't seem to work after I did the hack, but I couldn't tell you if it was because of the hack, or that it was crap to begin with, or that something else was the problem. In the end I just got the "right one" from SJ and my idle problems were much improved. Good luck.

Hi TH, thank you for getting back. Comparing my valve with the one in this image I found in one of the manuals, it seems my connector is out by 90 deg. I'll have a go at re-aligning it. If that fails then it's off to SJS for the real thing I guess.

The mechanism is held in the shell by 3 splined pins which can be removed with vice grips.

The circumference of the shell is 99mm. I wanted to rotate the shell by 90⁰ which is 25mm. Measure 25mm from each hole and drill new 2mm holes. Replace the mechanism and press in the 3 pins. I believe the orientation is now correct.

This IAC valve was a Lucas FDB953 and is supposed to be an equivalent of Vauxhall part number 817253. The price was £10.05 and free postage.

im currently having issues that point in the direction of needing a replacement IAC valve as well.

will be interested to know where to supply one as well as how dificult did you guys find it to remove them

im looking at the NA engine and theres a lot less wires and tubes in the area than in the SE but nonetheless it seems a rather dificult part to remove from the top, unless thers some trick to it that is not apparent to me >

I would love to know how you got those spline pins out. I brought one of the IAC valves and had a go, no joy at all. But i do now know what they look like inside  I'm in a bit of a rush to get the car back together so had to Buy one from SJSportcars.
If I could get the pins out smoothly it is entirely possible to move the connecter to match the original.

Also just to add on removal of the valve - the posi screws rounded as they were slightly seized, from 30 years of contact - so I had to take the inlet manifold off (That isn't too much fun)

can you post pictures of what yours looks like please ? (maybe even i could buy it from you if its still functional) i've ordered an astra IAC off ebay with the matching GM part number. it looks like its got the plug in the wrong direction as well. BUT im confident i can "do something" to make the electrical connections work.
