ROCK AUTOS . customs pulling items +20%

Postby clemo » Tue 30.05.2017, 15:39

Just a heads up that recent orders seem to be being picked up by UK customs if the item is over £15 (according to the DHL & Parcel force customer help department)

Whilst this is nothing new , most of my infrequent rock autos items get pulled . myself and Steve A both have bits now at customs .

Not only will this become a bit of an issue as my items are going direct to the my garage 100's of miles away , they will receive the letter requiring payment .Which i turn slows down the whole process of getting the parts .

This also means that 20% will be levied on my purchase ( that was £300 and adds up to a fair whack ) . Some of which may have been cheaper buying from the UK .
Or the items that i was buying just to squirrel away have become not such a bargain .

The reason most items are getting picked up now is that the dispatch from USA is going via Germanys international customs hub rather than directly bagged to UK customs hub and this shows as an anomaly and gets pulled to look at .

Buyer be aware and all that

Ironically, my last order from Rock Auto was the only one which escaped customs.
This was back in December though. I have not sure if things have changed since then?

We'll know what to do next time

That's a bugger, I recently got an email from RA with a code for previous customers to get 5% off - seems we'll all need quite a bit more discount now H.M. Customs are tetchy.

My cambelt, water pump etc kit came through very quickly with no surcharges but I ordered it just before Brexit vote, when the £ was still strong and Customs were laissez-faire ... oh happy days... £97.40 :-D
