Lets knock this one around. So the car now shift great...except one problem. It started out great, then when coming off the highway, shifting out of 5th was hard. It still shifted fine though even to fifth, but now instead of hard pulling it out of gear, it will just slip out. If you under acceleration, it will stay in fifth. The moment you let off the throttle, if you gently tap on the gear shifter, it slips right now of fifth. Also, when just leaving the car sit shifting through the gears, you can feel and hear the difference in the gears. You can feel the shiftness and feel as you shift through the gears, but with fifth, it doesn't see like it pops in like the rest. Could this be an adjustment needed on the linkage? If so, is there a certain part that gets adjusted for 5th?

Sounds like 2nd in my old Mk1 Astra...
When changing gear, it just slid out gently without any resistance like you usually feel when changing out of gear. Applying torque (a little throttle) was the only way to keep it in gear.
I believe this was a synchromesh fault, although the car was worn out anyway so I sold it rather than spend out money getting it fixed.

yeah, that is what it was doing in 5th was gently slid out without and resistance. I thing is, the 5th synchro ring was replaced on it and I spent the money getting it repaired and now sounds like its going to have to have the transmission pulled again for this synchromesh fault. Great. lol.

You can perform some gearbox repairs without removing the gearbox itself, especially 5th as it is the end cog. I'm not sure if this includes a sync repair (if it is a sync fault).
