Fitting drive shaft inner boots - how?

I put the Elan up on the top deck at the w/e and noticed some excess oil/grease where it shouldn't be. Had a closer look and the rhs inner drive shaft boot is split.


I've had a look in the parts manual and it gives a number A100R6005S. So lots of daft Qs to help me make it right instead of worse....

Anyone know

1 if the part is any use on its own or do I need to buy a whole sub assembly or a bigger kit of parts cos of other seals/bits that I'll disturb while doing the job?
2 is it poss to change without specialist tools (ie just normal spanners/sockets etc)?
3 are there any instructions/pics about?

The mess was obviously caused by whatever was in the boot when it split - errrrrrr , what should that be? The stuff on the frame is too gungey for normal oil, but much too thin for grease. I'm guessing maybe the joint should be packed in grease covered by the boot and its just gone thin through age/work, but ......?

1) If you use the search facility on here, the boots are easily available, don't forget to download the manual.
You may need, a new hub nut, new drive shaft lock rings, CV joint grease
2) I'd say no...(you'll need a ball joint spitter, hub puller and a big ass 4-6ft torque wrench (or a 6ft scaffold pole, air gun etc...) for the hub nut and possibly a slide hammer)
3) The manual is very good, IIRCMonty did a good thread a while back on replacing a driveshaft.

Thanks Dave. Interesting reading.....which makes me think it may be a bit ambitious for me! I'll see if I feel brave over the winter. I'll have a look at the manual once I get access. Cheers...
