Very badly cracked exhaust manifold,
Disintegrating Rad,
Disintegrating cooling fan cowls,
Disintegrating brake pipes...the list goes on!
Having finally managed to find some time to potch again (after creating 2 children and starting my own business) I finally managed to crack the gearbox off and lift out the engine today.
Started merrily scrubbing the corrosion off the inside and out of the casing and noticed some odd patterning in certain areas. the casting doesn't seem to be particularly high quality with lots of snobs particularly on raised sections but more concerning is the appearance of very fine hairline cracks. they show up clearer when a bit of grime is rubbed into them.
There is no obvious evidence that the cracks are anything more than superficial (using a bit of wet n dry they dissapear) but there are LOTS of em.
Just wondering how terminal this is. As I have gone to the effort of removing the engine and gearbox I will be replacing the clutch plate and thrust bearing just as a precaution and what I need to know is am I looking at a new gearbox casing too????
