Replacement Shift Cable Kit - Similar to Bob B.

I just got back from picking up the small wrenches I had manufactured.

They are approx 3.5" and made from 7 gauge (0.179") Hot Rolled Steel. They have been de-burred and tumbled.

I haven't decided if I will get them plated - they are a limited use item that probably doesn't justify more cost.

Cost of manufacturing is $15.00 per pair. Plating will add $2.00 per pair. Now, no extra charge for plating

Shipping to the UK would normally be $35.00 but any of the previous buyers that want a set will get charged $20.00 for Priority Mail Postage
edited due to huge increases in USPS International shipping costs.

Shipping to the US would normally be $10.00 but any of the previous buyers that want a set will get charged $5.00 for Priority Mail Postage

Future buyers will be able to include a pair of wrenches with their cable kit for a total of $430.00 ($415.00 + $15.00) plus the earlier quoted shipping.

Nobody has to buy a pair, but I got a set with my AB cables and they were most helpful when I installed them.

Some more news: I finally was able to get gearbox brackets made and picked them and the wrenches up from the plating company.

I ordered the short-shift bellcrank, but things will have hold there until some more sales of the cables occur. As soon as I have a little more money available, I will move forward on that project.

There are 3 cable kits available from stock right now and no problem getting more very quickly since I just need to get the actual cables and rod ends.

I just heard that someone else in LEC is taking orders for a Short-Shift Kit! I wish they had let me know so I didn't duplicate something at a fairly high expense.

I have over $5,000.00 invested in design and manufacture of the parts needed for the shift cables and had made it clear that I was working on the short-shift kit, but wouldn't take orders or payments until they were ready. The last thing I wanted to do was create another Bob B. issue.

There is no reason to have two people offeriong a low demand item.

having used your gear selection cables and seen the quality of your workmanship, personally I would go for your parts everytime. Thats a lot of money to invest, but I am sure when finished you will have no trouble selling your short shift as the quality is excellent.

I like to think I keep up with current posts but must admit that if there is someone offering a short shift kit besides BCN it has got past me
I say this because my car is on original cables and I am waiting for SSK to be developed then when funds allow I intend to order both.

Thank you. I got the information from a trustworthy member who would not tell me who he ordered his kit from.

I am really sorry to everyone expressing a desire for the kit. It has taken too long to get to production on the kit I was preparing, but cash flow is not unlimited and I wanted to offer the best parts I could.

I did a lot of research and found several different approaches for the gearbox end mods before settling on a hybrid bellcrank that is like Dave's and AB's but also like the newer Pontiac bellcranks I found during my search. I am still amazed that AB did a full replacement fore-aft shaft with arm. He must have had one heck of a machine shop. My version is closer to Dave's but will have three ratio choices: Like Daves, a bit higher and a bit lower. That is more like ABs offering.

Dave mentioned that a while ago that another member asked for the design details but had not heard anything from him so felt they had decided to pass. I probably should have followed up before getting started.

This kind of nonsense is just not on and needs to be nipped in the bud as it will ultimately stop anyone developing stuff for the good of us all. I had a similar situation early on and it caused me a lot of anguish at the time so I know what you are feeling right now.
If this 'other' member is the guy I mentioned to you then I'm seriously pissed as the details were given to him on the strict understanding that he could make a one off for his personal use and the information passed to him was not to be used for financial gain as I had given sole design rights to 'he who shall not be named'.
To avoid the wrath of LEC I must point out that at that time 'he who shall not be named' was rather revered on here, hence my giving him authority to manufacture the parts to ensure future availability.
In fact I think around 10 of the evolved design were actually sold. Maybe he is now the mysterious seller?

I suppose I now need to trawl through my old e-mails to see if I can find the evidence to support all of this, meanwhile if someone can PM me (in strict confidence) who this new seller is, it will be appreciated so I don't go shooting from the hip without just cause

I would urge anyone to support Brit Car Nut on this as he is the only person who now has authority to use my design since he who shall not be named went AWOL.

Dave: I honestly don't remember the name of the other person that you mentioned was interested. I couldn't find it in our PMs or emails, so it was probably when we talked?

My "source" decided he didn't want to upset the other builder, so refused to put out an actual name. He just emailed me to warn me to get something out for sale before I get "beat" by the other project.

I am sorry that this has come up and since there is nothing I can do about the order for the bellcrank, I will order the fore-aft adapter as soon as I can afford it and get a few kits finished and up for sale. If they don't sell. then I will look into the GEO crowd as well as some of the other cars that used the same shifter.

I will still have shift cable sets for anyone that wants or needs them. Now that the bulkhead brackets are done, I can stop worrying since Lotus only had 20 of them left.

John, I have found that if you bend the adjustment wrench about 45 deg. it will
make the adjustment and tightening sequence much easier. At least with the A.B.
cables bracket and adjustor this was the case.

I didn't recall any issues when I did my AB cables, but they actually went in pretty smoothly. The wrenches are 7 gauge mild steel, so shouldn't be too hard for someone to bend. They look much more professional (and pretty) now that they are plated.

Currently sat stranded by the side of the road, well ok in a BP garage, AA say it will be another 3 hours before I can be recovered - FFS...

How much are your gear cables and can they be shipped to the uk?

Got a 2nd hand gearbox and now looking for a clutch kit - SJSportcars are closed and not open until the 6th - so looking elsewhere tomorrow

Just found time to install my set. Difficult with trying not to be antisocial around visitors for the holiday's. Beautiful construction and even better install instructions. Way over the top on both. Both times I was unsure how to proceed, it was clearly written in the pdf. I do recommend having the online version with better color pictures handy. Even for a knob like me it took about three hours. I would like to have the adjustments wrenches handy for a minor adjustments. Not looking forward to draining the radiator reservoir for a tweak. Now off for new exhaust and the open road. Will post feel observations after a few miles.
