Yipeee its time to spend money on the car again.
I have a problem with a buggered outer cv joint drivers side.
Basically the thread is knackered and I cant get the nut on ( or to be more specific the feller who is working on the car cant)
Does anyone have any ideas where I can get one?? Or if a repair is possible.
As usual all advice greatly appreciated.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

If the thread can be fixed with a die (probably have to go to a machine shop), that may be the cheapest fix. The other option may be getting a whole new axle - gulp... You'll have to remove the axle, however. Is the car somewhere that it can be left for a bit?

yup its leaveable, surely though its a cv joint not the whole axle ? Or am I missing something here?

How did the thread get knackered? How knackered is it?
You should be able to carefully chase the thread with a needle file or small triangular file. That is the easiest solution.
South West lotus had some for £15 at Donington this year. (Although I refuse to deal with them ever again!) so try all of the usual specialists first. Also try Lotus as they have it listed as a separate part.
As far as I am aware the joint is specific to the elan.
Be very careful with the outer boot, replacements are available but not to the same spec/design.

the cv boot split, heated up the joint on the hub, needed to be "persuaded" to come off with a big club hammer, hence the damage.
sw do have them, hope my experience is better than yours.
