Well it looks like my Everest chip finished off the clutch, She's slipping like mad now whenever the boost kicks in. Just been to my local garage who I would pretty much trust working on anything. Unfortunately they dont know what clutch I need as there usual supplier doesn't list the Elan.

Would anybody be able to recommend where my garage would be able to get a stock clutch from. Preferrably with quick delivery as shes meant to be going in on Thursday, alternatively does anybody know what the clutch could be listed as instead.

Why get a stock clutch if your chip overpowered your old one?

I reckon the clutch was on the way out when I bought the car and the chip just finished it off. From what I've read the stock clutch should easily handle the Everest Chip.

If anybody has any other ideas or information that will help my garage get the right clutch it would be appreciated.

Correct, you don`t need an uprated clutch.

Since your in a rush for the clutch you`ll have to ring your local dealer or a specialist ie SJ`s or Paul Matty

I think SJ or PM has them or direct from your local Lotus dealer :shock:

Thanks Guys,

I've got both places details as well as a copy of the relevent pages of the Lotus Parts Guide. I reckon I'll try and get the garage to order the bits for me luckily there open silly hours (7:00 AM untill gone 7:00 PM) so I can pop in before work.

Looks like the clutch and service could be getting on for £500 - £600. I've also been noticing what sounds like the o/s front wheel bearing starting to give up so I may ask them to do that whilst there at it.

I must say I thought owning a Mitsubishi was expensive but that clutch is bloody expensive, Mind you the wheel bearing is cheap after having to spend a couple of hundred quid for the entire hub from Mitsubihi when my wheel bearing went on my Gallant :shock:

In fact thinking about it how come every car I buy needs new clutches, wheel bearings and brakes after I've owned it three months. Anybody would think I was slightly heavy booted :smt059

A clutch on most cars will be expensive at a dealer or specialist. But with LEC it is possible to find alternative parts or the best places to order eg http://www.rockauto.com/ in the USA since the M100 engine is from there Isuzu Impulse.

Thanks, I've got them now so will know in future. I've just got to remember to order my parts in advance of when I need work doing. Especially important as shes my daily driver!!

When i won a Clutch of ebay I checked SJ`s site and it worked out at Approx £206 including VAT for a full clucth kit

Rock Auto`s have got some cheap clutch on there website but don`t know what there like

Ladies & Gentleman please meet a prime contender for idiot of the year award. :oops:

Whilst at work today whilst mulling over whether I should buy cheap from the states it just dawned on me that I've never checked the clutch cable adjustment. :shock:

Next what struck me was the feeling of having a clutch bite somewhere round my ear when I bought the car which I now had somehow gotten used to.

So I get home and have a fiddle with the adjuster and on a quick test now with the bite a lot lower on the pedal (perhaps to far down) find that no matter how much I try to overpower her the clutch keeps gripping. I'll know for certain tomorrow on my daily commute but how much of an idiot am I.

Dohh!!!

Think on the positive side, how much cash you've saved

The Elan clutches go on for a long while, easily 70 thou plus.

To have the clutch replaced on my 944 costs over £1100!!! :shock:

And it was last done over 80,000 miles ago

I may have to have another play around tonight as she was still slipping a bit today although not nearly as bad. It is a bit strange though that immediately after playing with the adjustment I couldn't get the clutch to slip at all yet she stands over-night and starts slipping straight away again this morning. She's only on 50,000 miles at the moment and had a new clutch cable about 3-4k ago just before I bought her.

Oh, well I'll get her sorted eventually!!!
