I got them in today. Not an easy job for me, but I managed. The only real problem I had was getting the circlip on the fore/aft cable. I had to remove the bracket to do it, then get the bracket back on with the cable already clipped in.
It turned out my fore/aft cable was bad after all. With the locking clamp turned fully locked, I could still move the cable.
The play in the shifter is gone, and the fore/aft movement is reduced to about 1/3 what it was before.
It's great. It makes me wonder if a previous owner installed a short-shift kit, though. I can't imagine wanting to make the throw any shorter than it is now. Fore/aft is no more than two inches, and side-to-side may not be that much.
