Driveshaft replacement?

That split does not look very normal to me. It looks like something has cut it rather than a stress fracture.
When a gaiter splits, it usually goes along one of the concertina creases. I am, no mechanic but have never seen a gaiter split along the axis of the shaft like in the pic above. Once the CV joint is exposed to the air, the grease starts to dry, dirt gets in & starts to wear the joint.
That split is enormous & does not look like normal wear & tear.
Any split slowly propagates too. It would take some time to grow that big, so the joint would have dried...but it looks greasy.

I couldn't agree with you more.

The mechanic is in Jersey, so its not even worth naming and shaming him, but even if the driveshaft split is natural, which it obviously isn't, he still did a very shoddy job on the brake hoses and the caliper, so no wonder he never chased me for the money for fitting the driveshaft. He's also a friend of a friend, and words have been had.

BTW if anyone from jersey wants to know who he is, send me a PM and I'll be glad to tell you who to avoid.

my outer cv joint has started clicking so ordered a pair of driveshafts of the after sales list, i forgot to ask the price when placing the order.
i looked on the dave eds updated list and there £93 plus vat,
i called today and was told ther £169 plus vat each ,
is some one have my pants down
any one know if lotus have increased there prices

He they definately been orderedfrom the aftersales list or just ordered from Lotus?
I had the same problems with the front upper wishbone parts I bought.

I think you have to email the guy at hethel directly to get the aftersales prices.
Which dealer are you using? Grange on Preston docks are ok using the aftersales system.

i ordered through christopher neals as im working up that end,
they rang aidan at lotus to ask if they are available and got the price, not to sure what's going on,
i had the same prob with a front chassis leg, on the list there £55 got charged £ 76, when i emailed lotus to ask the price was told there £76,
when i picked the part up, i was asked why i had contacted adian to check the price, i told them i dont like being ripped off,
im going to check again with Aidan, so expect to get the third degree again ,
