Not really an option unless you alter the bracket and that gets complex.

Had a feel of these (oohh err misses) on the prototype set of these and it makes a big difference it actually feels like the gear lever is attached to the gearbox not some vague association like normal . Mine has AB's and a AB shortshift but feels no where near as good. Would be interested if it would work with my shortshift ? will chat with you BOB at the essex meet.

With the AB short shift there is only one area that needs looking at and that is the pin on the cross gate gearbox end as this is a relatively short pin it is too short to get a rod end on as the bush is only about 8mm thick with a washer on it so say total to the R clip 8.5mm and it is welded in.
A 8mm rod end is 12mm so may be part can be made with a bush in it as this one is not as critical in terms or misalignment as the main selector which does move in and out as well as left to right.
Or the pin could be drilled out and replaced with suitable pin would prefer the latter as this then allows for misalignment.

I am also going to look at getting a S2 style gearbox bracket made and have ordered one as a pattern to work from and may be some short spanners.

Is it correct to say that the major problem with the AB cables is associated with the main selector cable?
If so could I just change the main selector cable for your super cable (nice work by the way) and keep the AB bracket, cross gate cable and short shift?
I have not fitted my AB set up yet so I could send them to you if required.

Just got it through the MOT and on the way home lost 2nd 4th and reverse so i assume the cable is gone.

All things are possible but I may have found a solution to the short pin on the cross gate and that’s a low profile rod end unfortunately not in stainless steel but it is 8mm thick not the normal 12mm for a 8mm rod end.

These may be a little more expensive than the stainless steel ones Ihave sourced as the stainless ones are at a very good price but should not add too much to the costs.
As for keeping the AB bracket I will need to look at the two S2 and AB to see how much differance there is and if there is enough adjustment on the other end to cope with it.

I can answer some questions, but I can't offer the solutions...(cos I'm not the designer)

IMHO AB cables are not a quality product (fit for purpose at a reasonable cost), I've had them on my car for nearly three years and they've got several issues. Name one person who hasn't had stiff cables on fitting.

The AB bracket is not suitable for Bob's cables, the diameter of the holes on the AB bracket are to small.

Any how I've now removed the AB set up, and I'm chuffed to burgery I did....

The question is........ do I fit BB's cables to the N/A?

Not strickly true but thanks for the comments.
Ok the prototypes did have an adapter to fit them to the standard SE/NA gearbox bracket but I have been looking at making them with a S2 type bracket.
I have asked a local company for a quote to make some of the S2 brackets in 304 stainless steel and I am waiting on the results.
Now the AB bracket I have here does not have the step in it that the S2 has so not sure if I work to S2 brackets if the cables will fit the AB cable brackets.

If these brackets come out at the right price (around £10.00 each) then I am going to add those in and drop the adapters I made for the prototypes.
This will mean that the people with S2 cables will not need the bracket unless they want a new stainless one as the cables will fit the original S2 bracket.

Hi Bob, i sent a PM yesterday but i am unsure it has gone as there is nothing in my sent box....Tried again this am and nothing so i will do it here.

I have done a bodge on my current cables (you would be proud) but i am still wanting the cables you have.

I have decided to rebuild the gearbox fit new cables and a new clutch (ouch) so it will be sorted once and for all.

With my car being a 1989 (SE) will i need the revised bracket that the S2 has?

How would you like me to pay for the cables, i would like to avoid paypal fees if at all possible.
