Called the manufacturer yesterday - 2 weeks ETA! Now that's what I call Christmas! I've always wanted to work in a cold garage on greasy car parts on my day off!

I do have the pressure plate, clutch disc, and release bearing that arrived already (quite awhile ago). They all look to be an exact match based on comparing measurements with my micrometer. I haven't fitted any of them yet though.

I'll let you know how it all works out - I'm hopeful!

Latest update - 2 months out from today. This is rediculous. I *really* need a car to drive!

Does anyone have any source for a flywheel for the Elan? I'd love to get a lightweight one, but at this point, a steel one would suffice (unless the price is unreasonable). I've searched and searched and can't find the AASCO one (or any others).

Does anyone have the AASCO part number? And where they got it?

Holy cow holy cow holy cow holy cow!

I should have a flywheel on FRIDAY - and it's an AASCO, which is nicer! I found a place that had one and they were VERY nice, knowledgable, and easy to work with. They'll even custom-make a flywheel for my +2 if I send it to them to take measurements.

Anyway, hope it comes and all goes in well! I'm excited to drive this again! I haven't even SAT in that car since Friday the 13th - October 13th, that is.

WOO HOO!

Good to see it coming together for u, but have u not paid for the Fidanza u ordered?

Would be interested in the details for the place u`r getting u`r Aasco and if u got a part number for it?

Yeah, I'm getting a refund from the Fidanza one. The place I got a hold of was called ClutchMasters out of California. I didn't get a part number, but I'll post it when it shows up.

i have been waiting since nov last year and still have no visibility on the items yet. do you have the contact email for the aasco flywheel?

did you get the clutchmaster clutch or clutch specialties? could you remind the prices you paid for the FW and Clutch set?

Woo hoo! Got all the parts! I sure wish this weekend wasn't the coldest 5-day spread in Utah's recorded history.... that's gonna be cold putting this sucker in. Wind chill is -20 (Fahrenheit, not Celcius) tonight already.

Yeah, I really hope so! That's the whole reason I even bought a digital camera was to quit scratching my head when putting cars back together.

I hate the "sheepdip, I don't even remember taking my carbs off to bleed the brakes" feeling.

As an update, DO NOT order from either one of these places. It's a long story, but the end result is I ordered parts to help out Desmond (they wouldn't ship international), got charged for them, waited and waited, then found out yesterday that neither can actually get the parts for one reason or another. Absolutely pitiful customer service.

Hegg, if you have another source on either, please get in touch with Desmond right away as his car is waiting for a clutch and flywheel. I feel sick about it that his car's been up for so long and these companies screwed up.

Hegg out of curiosity what is the difference in weight between the old and new flywheel, clutch plate, and pressure plate combined ?

I didn't have a way to accurately measure, but I used a bathroom scale and it showed that the new assembly was about 8ish pounds lighter. That's US pounds, by the way!

So about 4kg lighter. I'm not sure how much of it was the flywheel, but the flywheel was definitely lighter.

I ended up getting my parts from Performance International (clutch kit + bearing) and Clutch Specialties (flywheel). I will not do business with JazzPro again, nor will I patronize or deal with Fidanza again. Clutch Specialties was incredible at customer service and Performance International was very fast. The dude at Clutch Specialties I talked with was Brian.

Brian @ Clutch Specialties said the AASCO was the last one on the shelf when I got it, but apparently they're right next door to them and get them made up basically on-demand.

However, my car does not work. I'm still convinced it's an adjustment issue, but I haven't been able to solve it yet. There's always the chance that the parts I bought were incorrect for the Elan, so maybe do a little double-checking! They look like an exact match to me however.... I just can't get it to change gears.

So is the problem with Fidanza a producing and delivering issue or is it a quality kind of issue? Has anyone got a Fidanza flywheel so that I know how good they are?

I've only heard rumors about their quality being inferior, but I cannot personally attest to it. Their service was terrible and I spent an hour and a half last night talking with Dave Bean Engineering in California and the guy I was talking with indicated that they also had lots of problems dealing with Fidanza even on a business level.

So, to answer your question from MY perspective, the problem is with delivering and customer service. I have no personal experience with their quality (or lack thereof).

Oh yeah! I completely forgot to post on the board about my additional experience with Fidanza!

So a few posts ago I said I found the AASCO and cancelled the Fidanza right after they told me it was 2 more months out (geez!). So, the very next morning, Fidanza's production dude calls me on the phone and says "hey, I have a flywheel on my desk right now - do you want it?"

I told him no I don't want it! I already cancelled my order and I found another flywheel elsewhere. I can't be expected to wait 14 weeks for a product only to be told it's another 8 weeks out. He told me it was their engineering sample and I said it would have been nice to have sent that to me something like 13 weeks ago.

Anyway, just thought it was a funny story. As soon as you do business with someone else, they seem ready to please.
