The Elan has been resting in the garage waiting for the new carpets to be made, (and new seal going on the hood cover lid, and the dor / galss seal) so Im tackling a issue with one of my other cars - a seized clutch and wanted to ask a question of some knowledgeable folk (the cars a '73 Bond Bug!).
'Box out, clutch out and freed up. The clutch was fitted to the car 14 years ago, and is completely unworn as the car was rebuilt and then put in to storage in 1995, completely unused until I bought it in 2008.
I have very light surface corrosion on the flywheel face, and the pressure plate face, although the surfaces aren't pitted.
Is it ok to put it all back together or should I try to remove the surface corrosion with something (very fine grade sandpaper?).......sorry Im a complete novice if this sounds a stupid question to ask (the first 'box Ive had out!).
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Alan

I would certainly run over the flywheel with fine w&d or similar to remove the rust. You can do without that dust arround the thrust bearing although you could easily slip the clutch when assembled to achieve a smooth plate. Removing the rust first will also reduce the chances of a juddery clutch.
