Nylon bush

I have just replaced the gear stick/ball assembly as the old one was as floppy as a floppy thing. I have AP cables so now it should feel about as good as it can get but it's still a floppy thing, better but not good. So I looked further into the guts and found my Bellcrank lever very wobbly (A100F6112S) it seems the nylon bushes (A100F6113S) are worn out, the pin is not too bad (A1006114S) .In an ideal world I would replace the bushes and pin and all would not be so floppy, but are they still available ? or is there an other fix you guys have for this ? If I had a lath I could turn some up from brass, nylon or such but I don't. would a short shift fix it and if so where do I get one of those ?

Steve, AB also do a shortshift and I can recommend it, Dave's is also good but I don't think it replaces the worn part you have.

Dave M did some solid bushes but I think that was only the gearlever end and he hasn't been seen for a while. It might be worth talking to Bob Brown.

Just wondered, who made the gearbox ? I bet Lotus didn't. Maybe I could find some bits that way.

Sorry no pic at the moment parts are on car but if i get time at the wekend I will take a pic you would not see them if in car. They are at the gearbox end of things , the pivot pin on the bellcrank (has a gear cable attached to one end) in a lot smaller then the holes in the bellcrank, the size is made up with a pair of snap in nyon bushes ,maybe to cut down noise ? you can't see them unless you take the clip of pin and slide it out to remove bellcrank. That help ?
If I knew who made the gearbox I could maybe ge them from another manufacture.

What do you mean by Bell crank?

If your talking about the gear selector on top of the gearbox, i don`t remember there being a Nylon bush when i fitted AB`s short shifter

your in the right area, the Bellcrank lever has the crossgate cable attached to it. in parts catalogue part 18 the bushes are part 19.

The crossgate bellcrank does have 2 Nylon 'top hat' bushes. Worth trying Lotus to see if they still have them but I suspect you would end up with a new bellcrank. Otherwise you could try Oilite bushes. To be honest wear in these doesn't seem to make much diff. to the shift unless they are really stuffed. Worth looking at the hardened pin that locates into the selector shaft - it is exposed and never gets to see much grease
Gearbox is Isuzu (with Lotus specific ratios?). Parts could be available in the USA - look for Impulse RS - or failing that fancy a trip to Japan

With luck I have solved my problem, Steve at SJ 's has ordered the parts for me. Thanks for all your help on this I will let you know how much better it is with the new bits when I get them.

That's easy: Go to SJ Sports website, put the part no. (A100F6113S) into their search: then click on the camera icon next to the description. Hey presto a picture of the bush!!!!!

The bushes are still available from Lotus and GM and probably Isuzu. I use a deeper, nylon bush on my Short-Shift kit to make the crossgate bellcrank as accurate as possible. Unfortunately, the design of the stock crossgate bellcrank doesn't really work well with normal nylon "hat" bushes. You could make some from brass but they would have to be align bored after installation since the bellcrank is very thin and pressing "hat" bushes in so they are concentric is difficult.

For those that don't know which bushes they are referring to: They are item #5 in the picture.
They are about 8mm total height and snap into the hole by hand and are not really tight. There is a lot of slop in the design



The bushes I use look like this: Solid 12mm OD and 14mm total height. A lot more bearing surface and press into the pivot tube so very snug.



Just a cheap plug: Buy a Short-Shift Kit. It comes with new bushes in the new bellcrank.
